TEN COMMANDMENTS
FOR HAPPY MARRIAGE
ARE GIVEN BY PASTOR
“Ten commandments” of court
ship and marriage were given by
the Rev. Will H. Houghton, pastor
of the Baptist tabernacle, Atlanta, 1
Sunday evening during his sermon on
, the subject, “How to Be Happy,
( Though Married,” before a capacity
audience of 4,000. More than 500
were said to have been turned away
from the service.
Mr. Houghton went into a detailed
discussion of the age-old romance
of Rebecca and Abraham, pointing (
to Rebecca’s virtues of industry, i
modesty and kindness as admirable
examples for young women of today.'
He then offered the following ten
rules of conduct for marriage and
courtship:
“Don’t trifle with hearts, or some
one may stop on yours.
“Do not marry for beauty. Some
times a little paint covers an old
model.
“Do not court a ‘gimmie,’ or your,
birthstone may be a grindstone.
“Do not buy her all the cand.V
now. Life will need some sweeten
ing later.
“Do not marry too young. Puppy
love sometimes leads to a dog’s life.
“Do not forget married life is a
partnership, not a battleship.
“Do not expect faithfulness you
do not give. Marriage is mutual.
“Do not expect perfection. There
is no one perfect but you.
“Do not be critical. The tongue is
a dagger that reaches the heart.
“Do not marry an irreligious per
son. The hope of a life to come will
help make this life right.”

ONLY ONE VITAL ORGAN
OWNED IN COMMON BY
LATE ‘SIAMESE TWINS*
Minneapolis, Minn.—Only one or
gan was owned by Lucy and Bessie
Medich, “Siamese twins," who died
within a few minutes of each other
Saturday. A post mortem was held
Sunday. They were the children of
Mr. and Mrs. N. S. Medich, South
Bend, Ind.
Lucy died of pneumonia and free
pus in the chest cavity, according
to the physician who made the ex
-1 animation. Hesse, joined to he* - from
birth, about five months ago, died
[of shock and blood poisoning.
With the exception of the blad-
I der, which served both bodies, every
1 vital organ of the bodies was com
plete in each individual.
i The possession o two almost com
iplete sets of internal organs per
mitted Bessie to enjoy perfect health
throughout the long illness of Lucy
from pneumonia, physicians said. Th®
existence of only one bladder, how
ever, caused an almost immediate in
filtration into the body of Bessie of
the toxic materials which gathered
in the body of Lucy.
The children were fastened to
gether by n narrow band at the hips,
the holds being at opposite ends of
the double body, which was only a
bout 22 inches long. The legs ex
tended outward sidewise from the
bodies on either side.
DOMESTIC RABBIT MEAT IS
SAID TO BE LIKE CHICKEN
To acquaint the public with the
value of domestic rabbit meat and to
encourage its consumption the United
States Department of Agriculture has
issued a colored poster picturing tWo
dressed rabbits and plates of friend
and baked rabbit and calling atten
tion to the good qualities of this meat.
Domestic rabbit meat, says the bio
logical survey, which is carrying on
investigations in raising rabbits,
tastes more like chicken than like
wild rabbit. Few housewives are fa
miliar with its food value and delici
ous flavor.
Domestic rabbits are raised in
hutches, where they have only limit
ed exercise and where they can be
fed properly. They are cleanly in
habits, and their diet, consisting chief
ly of cats, barley and alfalfa hay,
makes the meat sweet, tender and
excellently flavored.
Deal* : in meat and others who will
display the poster in a conspicuous
place may obtain a copy free on ro
quest to the United States Depart
ment of Agriculture, Washington, D.

REOPENING OF BANKS
IN. NORTHEAST GEORGIA
COMPLETE, SAYS BOARD
The reopening of all closed banks
in the extreme northeastern section
of Georgia has been completed
through the resumption of business
of the Bank of Iliawassee, it was
announced Thursday by the state
banking department. Other closed
institutions in all sections of the
state are being reopened rapidly, it
was said.
Branches of the Georgia Slate
bank, at G'ordeie, Cumming and Mid
ville, have been turned over to local
trustees for liquidation to satisfy
creditors and depositors, it was an
nounced. These branches are to be
treated as separate and individual
banking institutions, under authority
of a recent court order by Judge G.
H. Howard, of the Fulton superior
court.
CITY COUNCIL REDUCES TAXES
IN COMMERCE
The record has been smashed. Ev
erything has been going up, and up,
and up, ever since the world war.
It has been so common for every
thing to go up and stay up that it
may have been concluded that nothing
could go down, but the city council
of Commerce has demonstrated the
truth of the adage that all that goes
up must come down. Anyhow, the
city fathers have reduced the taxes
in Commerce for the reason given
herewith:
“The city tax rate for thia year
has been lowered ten cents on the
hundred dollars, being now $1.50
per SIOO.OO. This action i.s made
possible by showing that it is not
best to collect enough taxes this year
to pay next year’s expenses, thereby
keeping much of the tax money un
used for several months.”—Com
