Miss Edna Moore is in Maysville ftj'c week, the truest of relatives. Miss Mildred Pendergrass, who teaches in East Point, was the guest recently of her parents in Jefferson. Mrs. Virginia Bryan of Athens is the cuest of her son, Mr. M. M. Bry m, and family. Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Griffeth and children, Miss Leona, and Frank Gerald, spent Sunday in Bishop with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Aycock. The Womans Misaionsary Society of the Christian church will meet on u on <]ay afternoon at 3 o’clock at the home of Mrs. D. T. Wilhite. Misses Helen and Eloise Johnson of the Toccoa school faculty spent the Thanksgiving holidays with their parents here. Mrs. Mattie Bell Roberts had as quests for the week-end her three daughters, Misses Laura Bell, Frances and Annie Roberts. Mr. Jewett Wier, a student at Mercer, was with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wier, here, for the week end. Mr. Frank Hlll of Atlanta was a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Edwin Wills, Monday night. Miss Lucile Vandiver, who teaches at Braselton. spent the week-end with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Holliday, Mrs. J. Edwin Wills, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Kelly, spent Monday in Athens. Mr. C. N. Pinson and family and Mr. Will Loggins spent Thanksgiving in Crawford, guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Harris. Miss LaTrelle Patrick of the State University spent the week-end with her father, Mr. W. L. Patrick, at their home on Hill street. Mr. E. S. Ethridge, Misses Nannie and Lola Ethridge, were recent visi tors to Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Richard son, in LaGrange. The Jefferson Chamber of Com merce meets at the Harrison Hotel on next Monday evening at 7.30 o’clock. Messrs. A. L. DeLaperriere, C. 0. Shanahan, J. E. McElhannon and R. L. McElhannon spent Thursday in Birmingham, Ala. Mr. Ralph Johnson of Emory Uni versity spent the week-end with his parents, Rev. ar.d Mrs. A. J. John- Miss Frances Smith, after spend ing the Thanksgiving holidays with her mother, Mrs. S. J. Smith, return ed Sunday to Danielsville, where she is teaching. The Presbyterian Womans Auxili ary will meet on next Monday after noon at three o’clock with Mrs. Hom er Honcock. Mrs. C. E. Barnett will have charge of the program. Every member is urged to attend. The Womans Missionary Society of the Methodist church will meet on next Monday afternoon with Mrs. L. B Linn, at the parsonage, at 3 o’clock. New officers for the coming year will be chosen at this meeting; and a full attendance of the member ship is urged. Mrs. M. L. Wheeler entertained at six o’clock dinner on Thanksgiving. The invited guests were Misses Annie and Estelle Wheeler, Darris Eckles, Messrs. Foster Eckles, Tom Turner and Walter Crawford. Miss Emma Long and Mrs. Frances Long Taylor, daughters of the late Dr. Crawford W. Long, accompanied by Mrs. Henderson, of Atlanta, were guests of Miss Callie Watson a few days ago. Miss Lillian Wills, and her guest, -Mr. Bob Jones*, of Thomaston, return ed to Thomaston, Sunday, after spending the week-end with her moth er. She was accompanied to Atlan ta by Mrs. Wills and Ralph and Rus sell Wills. The pupils of the Athens High school will present Daddy Long Leggs in that city on Friday evening. A mong those taking prominent parts in the entertainment are Miss Mary Kate Massey, who will take the part .of Judy Abbott; and Miss Sarah "/Thurmond, who will be the matron of the orphans home. The play will he directed by Miss Manita Bullock. Dooley and little grand son, Theron Dooley Martin, are visit ing her daughter, Mrs. J. B. Dalton, of Winder. Mrs. A. R. Kennedy of Coolidge, and Miss Elizabeth Dooley of At lanta, have returned to their homes, after a week’s visit to their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Dooley. Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Holliday have returned from a visit to Mr. and Mrs. Noble Patrick, at Charlotte, N. C. While there, they had the pleasure of attending the automobile races, an annual event that always draws large crowds to that city. The Junior Auxiliary of the Bap tist church met at the home of Mrs. Morris Bryan, the leader, Nov. 23. The subject was Thanksgiving. Those taking part, were Frapces Ellington, Mabeth Storey, Mary Lizzie Carter, Nelda Grace Kell, Thelma Griffeth, and Annie Pinson. Rev. H. L. Edmundson, the new presiding elder of the Elberton dis trict, announces that he will begin his quarterly meetings on Dec. sth in Elberton. He will bold quarterly meeting in Maysville on the morning of January 16th, and in Commerce in the afternoon or evening. The Light of the World, the page ant which has been given at the Baptist church for the past two years, will be presented again this year, on the evening of December 19th, at eight o’clock. The pageant combines the Christmas story with the mis sionary message. There are 100 people taking part. Everyone is cor dially invited. Mr. John Methvin Holder of Thom asville spent Sunday and Mondfcy at the home of Mr. F. P. Holder. Miss Dorothy Aiken, who is a student at the State Normal, has been selected to take the part of Noel Derby, in the play, “The Goose Hangs High,” which is to be pre sented by the pupils of the State Normal on December 11th. The play is said to be one of the most charm ing written in several years, and the cast has been selected with a view to presenting a delightful entertain ment. Mr. J. Howard Marler of Fort Myers, Fla., is spending this week with relatives in Jefferson. Editor John F. Shannon and Mrs. Shannon of Commerce spent Sunday m Jefferson with Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Smith. Mrs. Fambrough of Oconee county has been spending several days with her daughter, MAs. George West moreland, at her home on Martin street. Mrs. Sharpe and Mrs. Turner of Commerce were in Jefferson, Tuesday afternoon, guests of the former’s daughter, Miss Mae Sharpe, who is a member of the faculty of Martin Institute. Mr. Frank McCrackin, Miss Bessie Gaines, of Gainesville, Misses Valeria McCrackin and Lila Mae Culpepper of White Sulphur, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Culpepper last Thursday. The Womans Club will meet Dec. 13. The hostesses for the meeting, are Mrs. Erastus Smith, Mrs. Rob Kelly, Mrs. Hugh Crooks, Mrs. W. D. Dadisman. At this time the annual Christmas tree for Tallulah will be enjoyed. Each member is expected to give an offering. The committee Will send you a little stocking, which you will please fill and carry to the meeting. The Bible clrss of the Presbyterian ; Womans Auxiliary met on Monday i afternoon with Mrs. J. C. Turner. Th* 'devotional was led by the Vice-Presi dent, Mrs. Hal Moore. After the business meeting, the afternoon was spent in making gauze sponges for the Presbyterial work. Alexander, and J. C. Turner. Mr. and Mbs. O. P. Aiken had as their guests for the week-end their daughter, Miss Dorothy, who is a student at the State Normal, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Whelchel of Gainesville, Mr. and Mrs. George Slappy, Miss Lydia Guice, Messrs. Mac and Roy Hudson, Dr. Ralph Aiken, Col. Seals Aiken, of Atlanta, Miss Theodooia Goodman of Mar shallville. The entire party were delightfully entertained at dinner on Saturday evening by Mr. and Mrs. George W. Foster. Besides Miss Allene Epps, men tioned in last week’s Herald, Jackson [county will have another representa tive at Milwaukee to attend the Stu dents Conference. Emory University will send six delegates, among them Robin Hood cf Commerce. This con ference has been called by the Coun cil of Christian associations to de cide where students are progressing in their intellectual and spiritual de velopment. Three thousand students, representative of practically all the colleges and universities in the Unit ed States, will be assembled at the meeting. Miss Daisy Davies, one of the most noted women connected w;th! the Womans Missionary Socletie? of j the Southern Methodist Church, was in the city Sunday night, and spoke to the congregation at the Methodist church. She was here to enlist the financial support of the Jefferson Auxiliary in the Belle Bennett Me morial, a college located at Nash ville, Tenn., which instructs mis sionaries and church workers. Miss Davies has visited almost all the States where the M. E. Church, South, is located, and has spent several years in foreign countries. She is enthusiastic in her work, and is an attractive and convincing speaker. Her work among the people of the different nations enables her to speak interestingly, and her devotion to the cause she represents produces a fervency that permeates her audi ence. U. social given at the home of Misses Moateen and Etheleen Perry, Friday night, was highly enjoyed by a large crowd. Miss Louise Breazeal had as her Sunday dinner guests, Misses Gladys Hutson and Estelle Hendrix cf Holly Springs. * Mr. and Mrs. Guv Crooks left Saturday, Nov. 27, for Winter Gar den, Fla. We wish for them much success in their new home. Mr. Julian Jackson and Miss Mon teen Perry were happily married or, last Sunday afternoon, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. LaTSgfard, in the presence of a large host of friends. Miss Perry is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. H. Ferry of this community. Mr. Jackson is the youngest son of Mr. Dave Jackson of Florida, though Mr. Julian Jackson resides in this community. lioth the bride and groom arc from very prominent families.
