FACTS
about used car
allowances
Most new car sales now in
volve the trading-in of a
buyer’s used car. More and
more people are asking:
ff Why should my used car
seem to have several val
ues? .... Why should deal
ers in different makes of
cars offer me allowances
differing materially?
Does the largest allowance
offered mean the best deal
for me?”
Here are basic facts :
IYour used car has seemingly
different values because com
petitive dealers are bidding to sell
you anew car.
2 Your used car has only one
fundamental basis of value:
what the dealer who accepts it in
trade can get for it in the used car
market.
3 The largest trade-in allowance
which is offered on your used
car is not necessarily the best deal
for you. Sometimes it is; but some
times it is not.
4 An excessive allowance may
mean that you are paying an
excessive price for the new car in
comparison with its real value.
5 Judge the merits of the new
car in comparison with its
price, including all delivery and
finance charges. Then weigh any
difference in allowance offered on
your used car.
WHEN YOU are ready to trade
in your present car, remem
ber that after all you are making a
purchase and not a sale. You are
buying a new car and simply
applying your present car as a
credit toward the purchase price
of anew car.

HOLLOMON AND SMALL
(From Commerce News)
James A. Hollomon, editorial writ
er of the Atlanta Constitution, and
Sam Small, who also contributes to
the editorial page of the Atlanta
Constitution, are both fighting the
Volstead act, and thereby failing to
support the Constitution of the Unit
ed States. The two writers do not
seem to be agreed on the question.
Both, however, want a change in the
Volstead act, or rather both want it
either repealed or modified. One
day Mr. Hollomon takes a rap at pro
hibition, and the next Mr. Small
gives it a back handed lick. Mr.
Hollomon it seems wants beer and
light wine, while Mr. Small wants
the law repealed and the liquor ques
tion left in the hands of the states,
each state to handle the matter as
is deems best. That is exactiy the
position of A1 Smith, as we under
stand him, and the people of the
South are referring to A1 Smith as
the wetest of the wet. Mr. Hollo
mon, if we understand him, wants
light wines and beer. The law is not
enforced, he says, and according to
his view, the way to enforce it is to
give the people alcohol in some form
and some quantity Mo drink, which
means that the way to cure the bite
of a rattle snake is to get another
rattle snake to bite you. A1 Smith
will shout a loud amen to Mr. Small’s
remedy, while every beer and liquor
man in all the states will pat Mr.
Hollomon on the back and say, go
to it Jim.
Leaving the question in the hands
of the states means in its last analy
sis a step in the direction of the re
turn of open saloons, and light wines
and beer means anything to drink
you want in any quantity, where
ever light wines and beer are sold.
So, that, the Constitution, that has
consistently fought prohibition in
all its forms, from the beginning of
the fight until the present, is still
in the fight. The Constitution
fought local option in Georgia. Fought
the bill that Dr. Hardman introduced
and had passed making Georgia a
prohibition state, fought the Vol
stead law which was under consider
ation, and has fought it ever since,
and is fighting it now. In every one
of these contests mentioned, and
others that could be mentioned, the
Constitution has been lined up with
the wet interests, and instead of one
editorial writer fighting the pres
ent law, the Constitution now has
two, if not more.
Moll Gore, convicted in the Ful
ton Superior court four times and
sentenced to the electric chair, has
been resentenced to die on June 3rd.
His case has been of unusual inter
est in that the man has escaped the
electric chair three times and now
there is an effort being: made to de
lay execution again. It is the pur
pose of his attorneys to carry the
case to the United States courts in
the hopes that some technicality
may arise or be developed that wall
authorize another trial. Gore has
been proven guilty of the crime, not
withstanding the claims of some wit
nesses that he was not the man who
fied the fatal shot that caused the
death of Cheek, a groceryman.

The Firestone
Gum-Dipped
Balloon with its
scientifically
designed tread
permits free
flexing, easier
riding, extra
comfort and safety.
The balloon tire with heavy, flat tread design is obvi
ously stiffer and rides harder. The excess rubber, placed
for appearance at the edges of the tread, is not only
wasted but produces hinging action causing ply separa
tion and “shoulder breaks.”
Firestone designed and manufactures Oldfield Tires
and Tubes, distributing them direct to Firestone Dealers
only, through 14S Factory Warehouses. This efficient and
economical distribution assures tire buyers everywhere,
clean, fresh stocks of Firestone and Oldfield Tires in all

Nurse Advises
WEAK, RUN-DOWN
To Take Cardui
**l have known of Cardui for
nearly twenty-five years,” says Mrs.
Selma Meissner, 1072 Harrison Ave.,
Beaumont, Texas. "During that
time, I have taken it several times
and have frequently recommended
it to others, for it is a splendid
medicine and glad to give peo
ple the benefit of my experience.
"I have been a nurse for several
years and have often come itl con
tact with patients who were run
down and weak. Often I have told
sufferers of Cardui, and the way I,
myself, had been helped after tak
ing it, and advised them to give it
a trial Many of them have since
thanked me for what I told them,
so I am willing that other women
should know about it, too.
"I first took Cardui because I was
awfully run-down. I had no appe
tite, and was weak and listless. It
was hard to keep going under such
conditions, and 1 looked for some
thing which would help me.
"I had read of Cardui and decided
to try it. After taking it, I improv
ed so much that I have taken it
since whenever I needed a tonic.”
