Mr. Roby Tillman, an employee of
the State Highway department, who
is now stationed in Winder, spent
Sunday in Jefferson, a guest at the
home of Mr. F. P. Holder.
Miss Mary Neal Shannon left
Tuesday for her home in East Point,
after a visit to her sister, Mrs. J. C.
Smith.
Billy, the older son of Mr. and
Mis. W. Harold Smith of New Hol
land, is the guest of his grand par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Smith, at
their home on Sycamore street.
Mr. Jackson of Charlotte, N. C.,
and Mr. Roy Burruss of Anderson,
S- C., were here Saturday, inspect
ing the air field, with a view to mak
m further improvements.
Friends of Mrs. W. C. Smith will
he interested to know that she under
went a tonsil operation at the hos
pital in Athens Saturday. She is
recuperating very satisfactorily at
her home on Sycamore street, much
t° the delight of her many friends.
Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Bennett and
little daughter, Bonnie Jean, left
tn, morning for Ames, lowa, where
Bennett will continue his gradu
ate study for the next three months.
Master Bobby Bennett will remain in

under the care of specialists, who are
treating her for a complication of

man Sparks, and were accompanied
home by Mrs. R. D: Moore, Sr., who
has been spending several weeks in
Columbia.

Dahlonega last week, to attend sum
mer school at N. G. A. C. She was
accompanied by Mrs. James F. and
Paul Waddell, who spent a delight
ful day in the mountains.

evening at 8.30. They will continue
morning and evening throughout the

John Holder Mobley of Milstead is
spending six weeks with his grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Holder,
during the absence of his mother at
summer school. Mrs. Mobley
teaches Home Economics in the
school at Milstead. The friends of
the little boy will be interested to
know that he made the highest grade
of any child in the grammar school
the past year.
Miss Lola Ethridge, a prominent
member of the Business Girls’ Club
of Athens, is attending the Southern
Conference for Business Girls at
Camp Nakanawa, Mayland, Tenn.
Miss Ethridge is a daughter of Mr.
E. S. Ethridge of Jefferson, and is
one of the city’s most prominent
young women.
MR. CLIFF FREEMAN INJURED 1
IN WRECK
Cl'ff Freeman was severely in
jured Tuesday night of last week,
when a truck he was driving ran in
to the bank on the road side at a
curve on the Lawrenceville-Brasel
ton road. found, he was un- j
conscious, and was taken to Allen’s
Sanitarium at Hoschton, where he
was given medical attention. Al
though his injuries were quite pain
ful, he is at his home here and is
recuperating.
Mr. Freeman was returning to
Jefferson with an empty truck be
longing to the Jefferson Transfer
Cos., and was following twe other
trucks. On account if the dust, he
did not see the sign falling attention
to this quick turn in the road, and
drove his truck straight into the
bank. The drivers of the trucks in
front missc 1 the light from the rear
truck, and went hack to fmd the
cause, and liseovon; * Mr. Freeman
in an unconscious condition. The
truck was badly damaged.

ture, will leave here Monday for
Washington, D. C., where they will
attend the national 4-11 Club camp
for boys and girls, June 17-23, af
ter which they will go to Detroit to
attend the annual convention of the
National Home Economics Associ
ation. Miss Collier is president of
the Georgia home economics organi
zation.
ATTICA WOMAN’S CLUB
Mrs. Shackelford was hostess to
the Woman’s Club of Attica, with
a Silver Tea, on Thursday afternoon,
June 4, on the beautiful lawn at her
home. Cake and tea was served by
the hostess. Nine ladies were pres
ent, and five 4-H Club girls. The
club was glad to have with them
Mrs. Wesley Peterson, a former
member. Also, Mrs. Mahaffey of
Jefferson, visitor.
BILLY FROST HAS BIRTHDAY
DINING
Avery delightful occasion of last
Sunday was the dining given by
Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Frost, honoring
the twelfth birthday of their young
est son, Billy. Covers were laid for
Misses Sarah Levin, Mildred Kell
and Mary Carter, Vernon Carter,
John Luther Carrington, Frank
Griffeth, A. W. Oliver of Atlanta,
and Billy Frost.
The young guests had a delight
ful time, and enjoyed a delicious
dinner, and left wishing for Billy
many returns of the happy occasion.
DEATH OF MR. R. L. DOSTER
Mr. Rorebt Lee Doster died at
the home of his brother, Mr. W. P.
Doster, in Jefferson, Friday night,
after an illness of several weeks.'
Mr. Doster was the son of the late
Henry C. and Jane Doster, and un
til recently had made his home in
Athens. He was 64 years of age.
His wife, Mrs. Callie Roberts Doster,
died in 1925.
Mr. Doster is survived by two
sisters, Mrs. Dollie Anglin of Jeffer
son, and Mrs. Sudie Tate of Winder;
by five brothers, W. P. Doster, Thom
as Doster, Jim Doster and Luther
Doster of Jefferson, and M. L. Dos
ter of Gainesville. To these and a
host of sorrowing friends, we offer
our tenderest sympathy.
Mr. Doster had been a member of
the Baptist church since a young
man. Funeral services were held
Sunday at 11 a. m. from the old
Doster Home Cemetery, with Rev. A.
O. Hood and Rev. Norton officiating.

LEAGUE UNION BRINGS LARGE
NUMBER OF YOUNG PEOPLE
TO JEFFERSON
The Joe Brown George Union of
the Epworth Leogue held the meet
ing of the second quarter with the
Jefferson League at ,th Methodist
church Sunday afternoon, with an
attendance of, almost two hundred
young people. The Leagues of the
Gainesville district are divided into
two •unions, the Joe Brown George
and the Yonah. At these quarterly
meetings great interest is xehibited,
and a banner is presented the Lea
gue having the largest attendance.
The banner was won Sunday by the
Chicopee League.
After the program, the members
of the Jefferson League served tea
and sandwiches. The following

The G. A.’s met with Mrs. Joe De-
Foor Tuesday afternoon, June 9.
The meeting was called to order by
the president, after which the minu
tes were read by the secretary. We
adopted the plan of “Feeding the
Pig” as a way for raising money for
church building fund. A good pro
gram was rendered, with Elizabeth
Roberts in charge. After the pro
gram, a half hour social was enjoy
ed, during which delicious refresh
ments were served. Those present,

don, Elizabeth Roberts, Mabeth

Mr. Bob Doster Passes
Our community was made sad to
learn of the death of Mr. Bob Doster.
He died last Friday night, and was
laid to rest at the Doster cemetery,
beside his wife, last Sunday a. m.
