tra will give an open air concert on
the public square this evening,
Thursday, from 9 to 10 o’clock. All

Miss Ruth Lord, who is a member
of the school faculty of Chattanooga,
Tenn., was in the city Monday, visit
ing Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Lord. Miss
Lord is a graduate of Martin Insti
tute, and her Jefferson friends were
delighted to see her.
Mrs. Annie Wood had as her din
ner guests on Sunday, Mr. and Mrs.

Phillips and little daughters, Mr. and

Mr. Nunn is contemplating returning
to Jackson county to reside, and is
in the market for a farm.
Mrs. Sam Wilson, Mrs. Sam Queen
and baby daughter, Betty, who have
been spending several days in e
ferson with relatives, left Tuesday
for their home in Atlanta. They
were accompanied home by Miss
Ella Dickson and Miss Miriam Ben
nett.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam R. Venable and
three children, Mary, Sam, Jr., and
Billy, who have been spending the
past three weeks with Mr. and Mrs,
T. N. Suddeth and other Georgia
relatives, left Monday for theii
home in Colorado, Tex. Their niece,
Miss Whelchel, of Greensboro, re
turned with them. Mr. Venable is a
son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. A.
Venable, and Mrs. Venable was Miss
Eula Dunnahoo. Both were reared
in Jackson county, but have resid
ed in Tejjas for many years. Their
friends here are always delighted to
give them a cordial welcome when
they return for a visit to their old
home.

have returned to their home in Sa

Florence, S. C., and the former’s
mother and sister, Mrs. Wilson and

Rev. Mijo H. Massey and Miss
Mary Kate Massey of Marianna,
Fla., who-are spending their vacation
in Jefferson, were in Cordele Sun
day, where Rev. Massey supplied the
Baptist church, which is without a
pastor.
Miss Mary Sanders, a daughter of
Dr. Leatus Sanders and the late
Mary Bennett Sanders, of Com
merce, received her A. B. degree at
the University Summer School at the
close of the six-weeks term.
Friends of Mrs. T. A. McElhannon
will regret to know that she fell
from the stair steps on Tuesday
evening, and was badly shocked from
the fall. No bones were broken, and
no bad bruises, and if no complica
tions set up, it is thought she will
be able to be up again soon.

Hon. H. W. Davis, one of Jack
son’s representatives in the legisla

mountains, accompanied by his

Floy Sims, and Miss Blossom Davis,
of Weston.
Mrs. Alverson and son of Birming
ham joined Mr. Alverson here last
week, and they have an apartment
with Mrs. Kate Hopkins, near the
Air Field. Mr. Alverson is an em
ployee of the government, and is
connected with the Jefferson' Air
Field.
The friends of Miss Nan Ethridge
will be delighted to learn that she
has returned from Atlanta, where
she underwent a tonsil operation at
Davis-Fischeh Sanitarium last week.
Miss Ethridge is spending this week
at Mountain City with her sister,
Mr3. H. L. Richardson, who has a
cottage there for the months of

Mrs. J. L. Williamson, who is at

lock. in Athens, was taken seriously
ill last Saturday morning, and was
quite sick for a few days; but we
are glad to state that her condition
has improved, and it is hoped she
will be able to be up in a few days.
Ralph M. Buffington of Jackson
county has been guest of Judge and
Mrs. C. W. Meldrim of Savannah.
Mr. Buffington has been for some
time at the officers training camp at
Fort Screven, a member of the
