Lad Choke* To Death In Apple
Tree Limb*
Elberton. —Emory, the twelve
year-old sdn of Mr. and Mrs. Willie
Little, of near Goldmine, was found
dead in an orchard close to the
home last Sunday afternoon. Death
was the result of strangulation.
The little boy left the house pro
bably about 3 o’clock to play in the
orchard nearby. His parents, think
ing nothing of his absence for the
time being, began to call and receiv
ing no answer, immediately began
search.
The body was found hanging
from an apple tree, his head being
fastened securely in the fork. He
had climbed into the tree and in
descending had fallen. In so doing
it was probable that the breath was
■ knocked out of the little fellow, and
he never rallied sufficiently to make
1 an effort to extricate himself.
COLORED PEOPLE’S 4-H CLUB
NEWS
The 4-H Club Girls County Short
Course held at Neal Rosewald
School by Miss Mattie R. Torbert
was a very successful one, and very
educative. There were demonstra
tions in vegetable cookery, showing
the use of a steam pressure cooker.
There were many quarts of string
beans canned by the use of a steam
pressure cdoker in 40 minutes, and
they were very quickly saved, and
we were taught the use °f saving
time in canning, as well as the sav
ing of wood or fuel.
The demonstrations in bread mak
ing were very good. The biscuits
and corn muffins could not have
been better made. All the demon
strations were very successfully put
over.
The clinic was well put over.
There were forty girls and women
examined by a dentist and a prac
ticing physician, from Athens, Ga.,
viz' Dr. A. M. Jones and Dr. I. H.
Burney, and Dr. Lamar Freeman
A clinic like this should be heW
everv year, which will b e very help
concerned. The baby
clinic I am told, was to be held the
same day; but due to a misunder
standing the babies were brought
too late. They were brought out
in large numbers, to th ®
their mothers and the agent. They
were carried back to the various
homes without getting the very
needful examination.
There were fifty girls present on
achievement day, nicely dressed in
club uniforms, who received promo
tion cards.
This short course was very well
attended at this busy time of th©
year. There were around on©
hundred people present. 1 am very
glad to know that the people in the
rural districts are fast learning the
need of such helpful work the ex
tention agents are putting over. _ I
can but say to the agent, go on with
the good work.

The Home Demonstration Agent
says she will leave with a large num
ber of her club boys and girls pn
July 24th, for camp at Georgia
State Industrial College, to attend
the State short course to be held
there for one week. I hope she, as
well as the club members, will be
! greatly benefitted by their stay in
) camp there.
I am sure I received much helpful
information by attending the
ty short course, held by Mrs. Mat
tie Torbert.
Mrs. J. W. Wilkerson.
Take a safety razor blade with
