Georgia's Right To Sell Beer
To Be Tested
The state of Georgia, through the
sheriff of Fulton county, Saturday
struck at direct nullification of it*
dry law when deputies operating un
der order* from Sheriff James I.
Lowry made charge of dry law viola
tion against two beer dealers, both of
whom are operating under license
granted by the city as a result of
council’s beer "legalization” ordi
nance.
The two beer dealers were notified
of the charges against them, with
prosecution set for this week before
Judge Jesse M. Wood in the criminal
court of Atlanta.
These cases were made for viola
tion of the state law, which is not
changed by council’s action in legal
izing the beer by passing an ordi
nance which City Attorney James L.
Mayson held illegal before its adop
tion.
After making two test cases, the
sheriff’s office announced that no
more cases will be made until the
courts have passed on the ones al
ready made. Sheriff James I. Lowry
said that he will enfore the law, but
he indicated that he wants the courts
to pass on the matter before carrying
out any raids.
“I am an officer of the law, and
have taken an oath to enforce the
law in Fulton county, whether it be
against highway robbery, bootlegging
or what not,” Sheriff Lowry said.
“If the court says that sale of 51.2
beer is illegal r in Georgia, we will
proceed against? the violators.”
HELPFUL BAKING HINTS TO
THOSE USING K C POWDER
Always sift flour and K C Baking
Powder together at least three times.
The more sifting, the lighter, finer
texture the cakes, biscuits, etc., will
be.
To mix a cake, first cream butter
and sugar thoroughly, then add yolks,
if used. Then alternately add mois
ture and flour that has been sifted
with baking powder and stir until
smooth and glossy, adding beaten
egg whites after thoroughly mixing.
For cakes, have your oven slow to
moderate at first, until the cake is
fully risen; then increase heat, so as
to just brown lightly.

MRS. ROOSEVELT VISITS
BONUS MARCHERS’ CAMP
Washington. Wading through
ankle-deep mud, Mrs. Franklin D.
Roosevelt tonight visited the bonus
marchers’ encampment at Fort Hunt,
Virginia, and amid their cheers told
them she felt all of them would have
“fair consideration.’’
The wife of the chief executive was
accompanied by Louis M. Howe, one
of the president’s secretaries. The
men lined the road in the govern
ment-provided encampment for them
and were silent as she arrived, her
self at the wheel of Howe’s automo
bile.
Mrs. Roosevelt told the men she
could not talk with them “of the
thing about which you want to know
most," saying “it is not my business
to talk politics.”
She referred to the bonus issue.
As she went about the camn sonm
men on the outskirts had shouted
“what about the bonus,” but were
quickly silenced by those near-by.
Slaughter Of Parrot* 1* Favored By
Doctor
Baltimore.—The slaughter of all
parrots is the advice of Dr. Thomas
M.Rivers as a certain method of put
ting an instant stop to the , disease
known as psittacosis, or parrot fever.
The suggestion to “kill all the
parrots” was made in a lecture at
the school of hygiene and public
health of the Johns Hopkins Univer
sity by Dr. Rivers, who is a member
of the Rockfeller Institute for Medi
cal Research.
“Parrots are filthy things, any way,
and I’m all in favor of killing them,
personally,” he said. “The trouble
is, they involve quite an industry.
The sale of the birds runs into mil
lions every year.”
