Mr. George Waddell, Sr., who has
had a continued illness for tho past
year or more, returned to Atlanta
last Thursday for further treatment.
We sincerely hope he will aoon be
able to be home again. Mrs. Wad
dell was very sick last week, but is
able to be in Atlanta with Mr. Wad
dell at this writing.
We understand that Mrs. Wess
Potter, who has been very sick for
past three months, is improving. We
hope she will soon be restored to her
usual good health.
Mrs. Elmer Venable spent an af
ternoon last week with Mrs. Tom
Potter.
The girls 4-H club met last Thurs
day evening, with a good attendance.
The girls prepared a nice program,
that was enjoyed by all, after which
Miss Bates inspected sewing and
gave information about the girls
council and other work for the year.
Jackson Trail has a splendid girls
club, as good as there is in the
county, and It Is hoped that the wo
man’s club will have a better attend
ance and encourage the girls more.
We invite you to join our club; you
will enjoy it.
Martha Beth, Clara Nell and
Louise Lavender and Ernestine and
Kloine Howard attended the girls
council meeting at the Martin In
stitute home economic laboratory
Saturday morning, and enjoyed it
very much.
Mr. and Mrs. Hope Nash visited
Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Lavender last
Thursday night.
Mr. and Mrs. James Bell have
been in Winder the greater part of
the last two weeks, with the form
er’s mother, Mrs. Florence Bell, who
is very sick.
We understand that little Doris
Waddell is sick with mumps at this
writing.
Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Lyle visited
Mr. and Mrs. Phillips in Oconee
county Sunday week. Mrs. Phillips
baby has been seriously sick with
whooping cough, but is better at this
writing. She will be remembered as
Miss Robie Carruth.
Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Lavender and
family enjoyed a fish fry at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Emory Shields re
cently.
Mrs. J. B. Humphfrus spent part
of last week with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. George Waddell, Sr.
Mr. and Mrs. Driver Reynolds
from Pendergrass were visiting
here Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Dooly and
daughter, Jesse Mae, spent the week

The workmen are making rapid
progress on the new church building,
and they state that it will be com
pleted in about two weeks.

formerly of this community, visited
his daughter, Mrs. J. R. Troutt, last

We are all so glad to know Mrs.
Cato Head has improved so much
from her serious illness, as to be
able to attend services at the Pond
Sunday, and hope she will keep gain
ing strength. She has been missed
so much.

Mr. C. G. Gillespie of Atlanta was
the week-end guest of his parents,

attended the singing in Jefferson
Sunday p. m., and pronounced it
fine. We are all glad it is coming to

Mrs. Tishie Richardson is the
guest of sister, Mrs. Goss Gillispie,
this week.
Mrs. D. J. Wheeler and Miss Alda
Wheeler were the guests of Mrs. J.
T. Boswell Monday afternoon.
The little baby of Mr. and Mrs.
Glenn Morris passed away at their
home, after a short illness of pneu
monia, on last Wednesday night.
It is so hard to understand why this
precious baby was taken so early,
but our Father needed another rose
bud for His wreath, and knew He
could find no fairer blossom. Little
Bettie Ann was only a little over
two months old, but was extra bright
and sweet, and the fond parents
miss their lovely baby since she has
flown to the bright home of the
angels and left them all alone, and
they cannot help but weep when they
think of the little treasure that so
soon did fall asleep; but it is so
comforting to rest on God’s promis
es that we shall find our littl ones in
the cloudless realms of Heaven. The
little body was laid to rest in Oconee
church yard Thursday p. m. Rev.
Brackman had charge of the service.

May Lilly Green, a servant in the
home of Mrs. W. T. Long, died on
Saturday morning, and was buried
in Paradise cemetery Sunday after
noon. She was 46 years of age, and
was a daughter of George W atkins.

Georgia Grant Watson, wjdow of
the late Green Watson, passed away
at her home near the bridge Mon
day. Burial services were held Tues
day, and interment was in Paradise
cemetery.

of the church.

COLORED PEOPLES 4-H CLUB
NEWS
All club members and rural folks
are planning and getting ready their
displays for the farm conference and
county fair to be held in Jefferson
March 22-23rd. New members are
enrolling in the clubs. The boys and
girls in many of the clubs are carry
ing special projects in corn, cotton,
potatoes, soghum cane, peanuts, figs,
chickens, and truck gardening.

Those who attended the state
short course in 1934 and won cash
prizes, medals and tickets to and fro
to the short course have created a
county-wide spirit in other club
members to do more and better work
this year, which is very gratifying.

On making my round on home
visiting, I found varieties of garden
seed and early corn purchased by
boys and girls and gardens prepared
for early planting. Get busy, girls,
with your garden work. I have been
asked if we had any vegetables for
sale at your roadside market.
The colored teachers of the coun
tv will render a literary program at
Commerce colored public school on
Friday night, March Ist; at Jeffer
son colored school, Friday night,
March loth, for the benefit of the
county fair. White friends cordial

The president of the adult council,
Mrs. J. Aker, has set a very fine ex
ample for her followers. The coun
cil treasury not having enough funds
in it to buy a steam pressure canner
for canning meats, she had a calf
she wished to kill and can, and she
killed it and canned it at the Com
merce cannery, which netted her 79
No. 2 cans of steak and stew meats.
Now, council women, get busy; let
us buy a cannery for ourselves, that
we may can our meat and old hens
and roosters when we cull our poul
try.
