Cotton Ginned in ’9l Sold In
Fayetteville
Fayetteville, Ga.—Two bales of
cotton ginned in 1891, and which ex
actly 46 years ago would have
brought 8 1-8 cents a pound, were
sold here last week for 9 cents a
pound.
The two bales were sold by B. B.
Gilbert to Redwine Brothers, with an
expressed hope that the new owner
will “keep it as long as I have.”
The bales, wrapped in the original
white cotton bagging, are about the
same thickness of present-day bales,
but are taller, and have one less
band about them than the present
regulation. One weighs exactly the
same as when ginned, but the other
was found to have lost several
pounds. Both are of good staple,
perfectly preserved.
