were held at Prince Avenue Baptist
Church Sunday afternoon, and in

Mrs. Hardy is survived by a son and
five daughters.

recently erected in LaGrange. Dr.

Jefferson enjoyed two splendidly
staged Christmas entertainments
during the past week: “A Christmas
Story,” at the Institute Auditorium,
Thursday evening; and “Why the
Chimes Rang,” at the Baptist Church
on Sunday evening. Both programs
included in their casts a large num
ber of persons, and so perfectly had
been their training each perform
ance was a great credit to all con
cerned. Both were greeted by a
capacity house ai^dience.

Hoschton. During the past several
years he and his son, Dr. M. B. Al

ATLANTA
In a simple but impressive cere
mony taking place Sunday after
noon in Atlanta, Miss Sara Frances
Yarbrough became the bride of Mr.
George Gleekstone.
Dr. A. Lee Hale, of the Peach
tree Road Methodist Church, former
pastor of the bride at Commerce, of
ficiated, using the ring ceremony.
The marriage took place in the par
sonage, and was witnessed by Miss
Wilma McNeely, Miss Peggy Ram
sey and Mr, and Mrs. J. D. Lowry,
of Atlanta, all close friends of the
bridal couple.
The bride was lovely in a brown
ensemble, worn with brown accesso
ries. Her flowers were a shoulder
corsage of sweetheart roses.
Mrs. Gleekstone is the elder
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Yar
brought, of Madison. Her grand
parents are Mr. and Mrs. M. M.
Yarbrough, of Guyton, and Mrs. B.
H. Collier, of Jefferson.
Mr. Gleekstone, who was reared
and educated in Albany, N. Y., holds
a responsible position as traveling
representative of the McCart Label
Cabinet Cos., of Bradford, Pa.
Mr. and Mrs. Gleekstone are
spending the holidays with their
parents in Madison, and on Decem
ber 27th will leave on a trip to
Miami.

cock, daughter of Mrs. Ethel Han
cock, member of the Junior Conser
vatory faculty of the Department of
Music of Brenau College, was pre
sented in a piano recital in the col
lege auditorium, Wednesday even
ing, December 15. This recital,
which featured several works by
Chopin, was artistically and beauti
fully presented. Miss Hancock, a
graduate student of Franciszeck
Zachara, received her Bachelor of
Arts degree from Brenau College
last year. She is a member of
Mu Phi Epsilon, national honorary
musical sorority, and Alpha Delta
Pi, national social sorority. She is
the youngest member of the music
faculty of Brenau College, where she
is extremely popular.

Selection of Mr. Davis and Mrs.
Isbell to participate in the prepar
ation of this year's fight against in
fantile paralysis, observed annually
on the President’s birthday January
20, followed the first meeting of the
state committee in Atlanta last
week.
Each county chairman serves un
der a district chairman, who in turn
works with a section chairman, per
fecting the most far-flung organis
ation attempted in the observance of
this nationwide event.

Miss Lois Irene Sanders and Mr.
Reynolds B. Dowe were married
December 16th, in Commerce.
Miss Sanders is the daughter of
Mrs. N. M. Sanders and the late Mr.
P. S. Sanders. At the time of her
marriage she was an employee of
the Jefferson Mills.
Mr. Dowe is a native of Rochest
er, N. Y., and the couple left Sat
urday, December 18th, to make
their home in that city.

THE SINGING OF CHRISTMAS

At 5:30 o’clock Friday afternoon,
under the auspices of the Jefferson
Woman’s Club, citizens of Jefferson
are invited to meet in the park on
the public square and take part in
the singing of Christmas carols.
This custom has come down
through the ages, and lends true
dignity and solemnity to Christmas.
In striking contrast to hurry and
rush, the noise, and efforts to make
a gala celebration of the birthday of
the King of Kings, the simple story
of the Christ child, sung by young
voices, gives beauty and joy expres
sive of a fitting celebration, of the
day.
Mr. and Mrs. John Ballcnger of
Seneca, S. C., will be in Jefferson
this week-end to visit Mr. T. S. John
son and other Jefferson relatives.
Professor I. N. Hayes, teacher of
Science and athletic coach at Mar
tin Institute, will spend the holiday*
with Mrs. Hayes, who is with rela
tives in Atlanta.
The friends of Mrs. J. C. Bennett
will be delighted to know that she
has recovered from an attack of flu
which kept her confined to her room
for almost two weeks.
