Kentucky, Pop Eckler arid His
Young-Uns, famous for the enter
tainment furnished millions of radio
fans on WLW, NBC, WSB and
WAGA, will stage a riotous evening
of fun, music and dancing at the
Roosevelt Theatre in Jefferson on
Monday night, July 4th.
Headed personally by Garner
“Pop" Eckler, one of the original
“Yodeling Twins," the young-uns
will present a whirl-wind perform
ance marked by diversity, hilarity
and enjoyability. The celebrated
Hayloft Fiddle Band; Red Murphey,
buck-and-wing wizard; Key Woods,
sweet-voiceJ mountain girl; Curley
Collins, the blue yodeler; and Tex
Foreman, radio’s funniest comedian,
will all be there to keep things live

Since invading this part of Dixie,
with WSB as head-quarters, Pop
Eckler and His Young-Uns have
captured the friendship and admir
ation of tens of thousands of radio
fans and have shattered many at
tendance records when appearing in
person before the public. A capaci
ty crowd is predicted for the Roose
velt engagement.

sermon. He and his wife were din

Master Bryce Crawford returned
to his home at Athens Sunday, after
spending several weeks with rela
tives here, one of which was in the
house with measles.
Mrs. Kate Potts and children spent
Sunday afternoon with Mrs. Henry
Wier.
Mrs. Gilmer Mauldin and daugh
ter, Ruby Lynne, spent Thursday in
Gainesville, and were accompanied
home by Miss Bettie Bagwell for a
three weeks visit.
Mrs. Charlie Short and two daugh
ters of Commerce were guests of
Mr. and Mrs. T. N. Suddath, Thurs
day.
Burke Williamson and family of
Arcade attended services here Sun
day. We were glad to have them
with us.
Mrs. Mattie Hood spent several
days recently with Mrs. Ida Suddath.
T. N. Suddath was able to walk
from his bed to front porch Sunday
afternoon, where he spent a few
hours pleasantly watching his friends
pass.
Mrs. Mahaffey and son, Nolan,
were with Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Mu
haffey Sunday, and attended ser
vices here.
H. A. Stephens, Clarence Silman
and John Edward Lord were with
Douglas Barnett awhile Sunday af
ternoon.

The play, which Center Grove
Sunday school had planned to re
present in Maysville High School
auditorium, has been postponed on
Friday night until another time, on
account of every one being so busy
with crops.
Sunday school will be at 2:30
o’clock Sunday, followed by preach
ing.
STEWART—PRICKETT
An affair of much interest to their
many friends was the marriage of
M iss Frances Elizabeth Stewart,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. W.
Stewart of Union Point, to George
Weldon Prickett of Commerce,
which took place at the home of the
bride’s parents Saturday, June 25, at
six o’clock. Mr. Prickett is coach
and principal of the Union Point
High School.
AMERICAN LEGION NAMES
OFFICERS
The Georgia department of the
American Legion closed its 20th an
nual convention by naming Logan A.
Kelley, of Buford, state commander,
and selecting Atlanta for the 1939
convention.
Mrs. W. S. Davison of Baldwin
heads the Legion Auxiliary for the
coming year, and Mrs. Ernest House
of Winder is director from the ninth
district.
Lewis A. Mauldin of Clarkesville
is district commander for the Legion.

sal’s “Wild West Days,” opening at
the Roosevelt Theatre on Tuesday
and Wednesday, shows Trigger
pulling Kentucky from the wagon
just before it explodes. Kentucky
goes to Purvis’ office for clues and
catches Driscoll, an outlaw, forging
Larry’s signature. Trigger saves
Kentucky during a gun battle.
Lucy tells Kentucky that Larry’s
mine deed is missing. They ride to
Driscoll’s ranch and discover the
outlaws. Kentucky spies two bandits
with Larry near the top of a water
fall. A terrific fight ensues and
Larry is knocked unconscious. When
Kentucky picks him up, an outlaw
hits him with a rock. Still holding
Larry, he topples over the falls.

Lee Moore, a colored citizen living
on the outskirts of the city, died
Friday. His body was interred Sun
day afternoon in Paradise cemetery.
