navy, and has been transferred to
the training school in Norfolk, Va.

the Christian Index: “Mr. Raymond
Rigdon, president of the Baptist
Student Union of Mercer University,
during the recent southwide B. S. U.
conference in Memphis, Tennessee,
represented the Training Union
members of the eolleges over Geor
gia in a talk to more than two thou
sand students. His talk was on
‘The Work of College Students in
the Training Union of My State.’ ”

A near-fatal accident happened
last week to Edwin Wood, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wood, who reside
near Hoschton. Young Wood was
kicked by a mule, and his condition
was serious for a few days, but he
is greatly improved now, and will
soon be all right.

THURSDAY BRIDGE CLUB
Mrs. W. T. Bryan entertained the
Thursday Ladies Bridge Club Friday
afternoon at her home on Lawrence
ville street. The party was happily
informal, and assembled the mem
bers for a.charmingly planned gath
ering. Fall flowers added their
beauty to the attractive home. Fol
lowing several rubbers of bridge, the
hostess served a course of djblicious
refreshments. The guests were Mrs.

GWINNETT YOUTH SLAIN IN
WRANGLE
Raymond Edwards, 20 t -year-old
Gwinnett county youth, was shot
and killed early Sunday night at a
filling station on the Buford-Law
renceville highway following an
argument over a stove, Sheriff J. P.
Mason, of Gwinnett county, report
ed.
Charles Roper, 15, of Habersham
county, was arrested in connection
with the killing and lodged in the
Gwinnett county jail at Lawrence
ville.

MRS. IDA HENDRICKS HEAD
PASSES AT MAYSVILLE
Mrs. Ida Hendricks Head, aged 67,
passed away Saturday at her home
in Maysville, following a long ill
ness. Funeral services were held
Sudnay, and interment waS in the
Maysville cemetery, with Rev. S. B.
Wingfield officiating.
Mrs. Hendricks was a member of
well known and prominent families
of Jackson and Banks counties, and
had a host of friends to mourn her
passing.
Surviving the deceased are two
children, Robt. M. Hendricks of
Maysville, and Mrs. A. N. Blackstock
of Jefferson, Route 1; and four sis
ters, Mrs. Miller of Athens, Mrs. J.
W. Shepperd and Miss Newtie Hale
of Maysville, Mrs. W. H. Emmett of
Americus.
The Dickson Circle of the Baptist
Church will meet with Mrs. J. C.
Hanson Monday afternoon at 3
o’clock.
Miss Ella Dickson returned to
Atlanta ISunday, after spending a
week at home. Her condition is im
proved, but not sufficiently to re
sume her work.
HANCOCK CAR STOLEN
About 10:30 o’clock Sunday night
an unknown person stole Claud Han
cock’s automobile, which was parked
in front of the residence of John
W. Hardy. The car was located
Tuesday in Hoschton, and is again
in Mr. Hancock’s possession.
John Hancock had driven the car
from Athens, and had been in the
home of Mr. Hardy only a few
minutes, when be discovered the
car was gone. At Hoschton Tues
day, the city marshall noticed that
a car had been parked on the street
for an unusually long time, and up
on investigation found papers in
the car that identified it as belong
ing to Mr. Hancock. The machine
was out of gas and oil, but was not
damaged. The thief is still at large,
and unknown.

their daughter, Mary, to Howard

ing been performed Thursday at the
home of Dr. and Mrs. J. C. Wilkin
son in Athens.
The 12th annual session of the
Georgia Press Institute will be held
at the Henry W. Grady School of
Journalism, the University of Geor
gia, February 22-25, and will bring
before the editors and members of
the University community some of
the nation’s most distinguished fig
ures in journalism.
