will regret to know that he has been
ill for several days.

from an extended visit with Mrs. G.
L. Colbert, and she had as week-end
guests, Mrs. A. R. Kennedy and son,

feeville, Ala. She accompanied Mrs.
Kennedy and son home.

Charles Drake, of Braselton, was
one of the students included on the
Dean’s list at Piedmont College for
the winter quarter. A student must
maintain an average of at least B to
remain on the list. Mr. Drake is
active in debating and will go to
Tifton next week with the Piedmont
team to debate Abraham Baldwin
College. He is a member of the J.
S. Green Literary Society and staff
photographer for the College year
book.

LOVELY BRIDGE PARTY
Lovely in every detail was the
bridge party given Tuesday after
noon by Mesdames H. I. Mobley and
J. A. Long at the Mobley home on
Washington street.
Beautiful flowers, in attractive ar
rangement, were placed throughout
the living room, reception room and
dining room, where the players
spent the afternoon in the delightful
recreation of bridge games. High
score was made by Mrs. Billy Wall
and low score prize was given Mrs.
Byrd Martin. Bingo prize was won
by Miss Joyce Storey.

CLUB
Misses Joyce and Maybeth Storey
two of Jefferson’s most popular
young ladies, were hostesses Tuesday
evening at a charmingly planned
party, their guests being members of
the Tuesday Night Bridge Club.
The Storey home, always attrac
tive and inviting, was more attrac
tive with its decoration $f vases and
bowls of vari-colored flowers.
High score was won by Mrs. Mc-
Donald; Mrs. M. L. Mobley drew the
consolation and a guest prize was
presented Mrs. McDonald.

METHODISTS URGE
FASTS FOR PEACE
Atlantic City, N. J.—The general
coherence of the Methodist church
Friday called upon all its 7,856,000
jm rfili n in the United States to do
without Sunday dinner on June 2
and pray for “speedy termination of
war.”
The 776 conference delegates re
solved to set the example by doing
likewise this Sunday and contribut
ing the money they would have spent
to a fund “for the relief of human
suffering.”
“The first Sunday in June,” their
resolution read, “is hereby designa
ted as a day of self-denial, fasting
and prayer throughout the Msthodist
church.”

Court
Marietta.—Leg shows in court
rooms sometimes leave the jury in
a fury. Or influence them with
blonde prejudice.
But in Marietta’s courthouse lady
witnesses will no longer have to put
themselves out on a pair of limbs.
A curtain 'which cloaks all witnesses
from the waist down was installed
this week in front of the witness
stand.
The action carried out a recomen
mendation of the October superior
court grand jury, which wefit on
record as deploring the “Exposure
of limbs” by lady witnesses on the
stand.

One of the loveliest social affairs
enjoyed by a group of Jefferson
bridge players this season was given
Friday afternoon by Mrs. R. J.
Kelly at her home on Athens street.
The Kelly home, recently remod
eled, is ideal for entertaining, and
the large living room with its new
furnishings made a lovely s'etting
for the six tables of bridge players.
Bowls and vases of beautiful spring
flowers adorned the rooms.
High score prizes were won by

inson and the cut prize was given

Members of the Ladies Sewing
Club honored one of their members,
Mrs. C. B. Lord, with a surprise
birthday party Sunday afternoon at
the home of Mrs. Lord on Lawrence

of Jefferson.
The couple will make their home
near Jefferson, where the groom Is
connected with the State Highway
Department.

birth of a daughter on Monday,
April 29, whom they have named
Martha Jane. The little girl is a

Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Crump and
Mrs. Dean Lott were unanimously*
re-elected to the Hoschton School
Faculty as announced by a recent
meeting of the local board of edu
caton.
Mr. and Mrs. Crump have been
with the school one year, and Mrs,
Lott, formerly Miss Jurelle Gilmore,
has been in the school system for
