Mi*i Willie Ruth Potts Passes
On Monday afternoon about 5.30,
the spirit of Miss Willie Ruth Potts,
the only daughter of Mrs. Kate
Potts, returned to the God who
pave it. It was my privilege to be
at the seat by her at the noon hour
all were telling what they wanted
for dinner the next day. As usual,
I asked her if she was going visiting
in the afternoon and she replied she
guessed not as she was not feeling
well enough. About 5 o’clock she
was sitting in shade of fruit trees
in back of the house watching the
men at work in wheat field. Her
cousin, Robert Potts, passed by af
ter a bucket of water and while
talking to her, saw that she was
strangling for breath. He gave the
alarm and a colored man, Sandy
Rucker, who had picked her up so
many times during her entire life
and carried her from one dwelling
to the other was the nearest and
first one to reach her and he grabed
her up and carried her to the house.
By this time her uncle, C. L. Potts,
had reached the house and after see
ing her, a physician was called but
she lingered only for about 20 min
utes after he arrived.
She was such a sweet character
that every one who knew her loved
her. She had a bright mind, but
such a weak heart that she had nev
er tried to go to school till last year
where she did exceeding well till
cold weather. She had gone only a
few days this year. ,
She had filed away all the Sunday
school literature that had been giv
en her by the secretaries of Thy
atira and Bethany Sunday schools
and many times have I seen her
with these bundles looking through
and reading them.
She was such a lover of company
that older, as well as younger ones,
loved to be with her. She will be
missed by friends and neighbors but
by none like the mother that was
always seeing to her comfort and
tried to supply every want.
I have certainly lost a young
friend. At this writing funeral ar
rangements have not been made.
