ROOSEVELT National Draft Numbers One To Four Hundred Fourteen Listed below are the names and serial numbers from 1 to 114 of the men in Jackson county who regis tered for the selective service draft and who are subject to the first call for one year’s military training. Twenty three hundred and sixteen men were registered, but the local board is of the opinion that in the first draft, even the four hundred number will not be reached. Georgia’s draft quota for, J 941 will be 12,792 men, the War De partment has officially announced. Only about half of the state quota is expected to be inducted into ser vice by “March 1. How many Geor gians will be called up this month, when some 30,000 men will be drafted from all parts of the nation, has not been announced. Overwhelming Majority In County, State And Nation RIVERS NAMES DRAFT APPEAL BOARD FOR COUNTY The names of the men who will have the final say-so on whether Johnny goes to the Army and totes a gun under the Selective Service law in this state were announced Saturday by Governor Rivers. They arc members of the six Ap peals Boards which will sit in six districts of the state formed accord ing to population, and consider, from paper evidence alone, whether a registrant who has appealed from his local board’s classification should or should not go into the armed ser vice. The personnel of each board rep resents the medical and legal pro fessions, religion, industry, agricul ture and labor. They are the court of last re sorts and can be reversed only in rare instances by the President of the United States. Jackson County is in District No. I. Other counties in this district are: Dade, 'Catoosa, Walker, Whit field, Chatooga, Murray, Gordon, Bartow, Floyd, Polk, Haralson, Paulding, Cobb, Cherokee, Pickens, Gilmer, Fannin, Union, Lumpkin, Dawson, Forsyth, Hall, White, Towns, Rabun, Habersham, Steph ens, Banks, Franklin, Hart, Elbert and Madison. Roosevelt was given a third term by an overwhelming majority. His popular majority over his op ponent, Wendell L. Wilkie, will be in the millions, while incomplete re turns gave him 468 electoral votes to Wilkie’s 64. Early Wednesday morning Wilkin conceded the election of Roosevelt. The president carried the Solid South, New York, Pennsylvania, Illi nois, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, Min nesota, California and other smaller states. He almost carried Maine, one of the two states carried by Landon four years ago. The Senate and House are Democratic, but in the House the Republicans are stronger than at present. Georgia gave Roosevelt a smash ing majority. Jackson County cast a very large vote and gave President Roosevelt an unprecedeeted majority. Jeffer son cast 420 votes. 390 for Roose velt, 88 for Wilkie and 2 for Prohi bition candidate. Minish district polled 743 votes for Roosevelt and 45 for Wilkie. That district voted all the tickets sent there and had to get more from both Jefferson and Maysville. Harrisburg voted 98 for Roosevelt and 13 for Wilkie. Ran dolph 64 for Roosevelt and 2 for Wilkie. Center gave its entire vote cast of 55 to the President. Attica, Roosevelt 96, Wilkie 21. The entire vote in the County was not consolidated before this paper went to press but it is seen by the vote in the district given that Roose velt won here by a rousing majority. Jackson County Loses Valuable Citizen by Death Monday afternoon, October 28, at his home in the southern part of (he county John W. Roquemore, follow ering a long illness answered the last call. Mr. Roquemore was born in Wal ton county June 21, 1867, the son of Peter Roquemore and Rebecca Mark Roquemore. In young manhood he moved to Jackson county where for many years he was a successful farmer. In 1899 he was married to Miss Lula Lavender, nine children were born to this union, four of whom preceded him in death. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. W. Coffman in the Pros pect Methodist church of which Mr. Roquemore was a member. One of the church’s most valued members, he was an influence for good, and was one of that church’s oldest members. His passing removes one who will be greatly missed by all who knew and admired him. The pall bearers were G. O. Lav ender, R. M. Lavender, J. L. Laven der, H. F. Hinesley, Dupree Cox and P. L. Duncan. Besides his wife, Mr. Roquemore is survived by four daughters,, Mrs. Reed Alexander, Mrs. H. W. Wood, Miss Alice Roquemore of AthenH, Mrs. R. M. Highfill, Mullins, S. C.; one son, Rev. John P. Roquemore, Cameron, S. C.; and seven grand children, Peter, Robert, Charles and George Alexander, Nancy Wood, Martha and Marie Highfill. H. T. Wall Dies in Winder Henry Thomas Wall, age 61 years, died at his home in Winder, Friday, October 25, following a two month’s illness. Mr. Wall was a native of Jackson county and was a member of Mace donia Baptist church. He was also a member of the Odd Fellow organization and was held in high esteem by numerous friends and relatives in this section. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. G. S. Manders of Braselton, ’ and Mrs. Ola Bell Mur phy of Talmo; two sons, Junior and Brazel Wall of Winder; one step son, Ernest Murphy of Buford. Funerah services were held Sat urday afternoon at Zion Baptist church with the Rev. Wiley Holland officiating. Interment was in tho churchyard cemetery.
