BAPTIST CHURCH SINGING
Sunday evening witnessed a large
gathering of singers and music lov
ers at the Baptist Church, where the
regular evening singing was held.
Besides the local talent, the Stamps-
Baxter Harmony Quartette, The
Hale Trio, and a number of good
leaders from Athens were on the
program, furnishing the audience an
interesting hour of musical numbers

Eliciting widespread social inter
est is the marriage of Miss Geraldine
Cash of this community to Mr. Grady
Langford of Holly Springs, which
was solemnized Friday p. m. at the
home of Rev. and Mrs. W. P. Hol
land at Braselton.
The bride is the accomplished and
talented daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
W. J. Cash, is a graduate of the
Braselton High School and former
student at North Georgia College,
Dahlonega.
The groom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Langford of Holly Springs and
is one of Jackson county’s most
highly esteemed citizens and is a
talented and outstanding young man
with splendid abilities and high am
bitions. Both the groom and bride
have won a large circle of friends.
After a wedding trip through the
North Georgia Mountains, they will
be at home to friends at Holly
Springs.
WOMAN’S MISSIONARY
UNION
The W. M. U. held their regular
monthly meeting at the church Sat
urday p. m. The meeting was
opened with a song, ‘‘Close to
Thee,” followed by prayer by Mis.
H. C. Baird. Mrs. Baird also gave
the Devotional, after which Mrs. W.
T. Evans had charge of the program
and gave a most interesting talk
from the leaflet. The meeting was
closed with a song, “Stand Up for
Jesus,” folloWered by prayer by
Miss Nina Faulkner. Several mem
bers were absent.
SUNDAY SCHOOL CELEBRATION
The annual Sunday School Cele
bration meets the first Saturday in
May. Several Sunday Schools have
promised to be here. Everybody is
cordially invited to attend.

MRS. IKE STANDRIDGE
Mi's. Ike Standridge died at her
home here Friday night, April 25.
She leaves a husband and several
children and grandchildren to mourn
her passing. Her funei'al was con
ducted from Madison Street Baptist
church at Commerce Sunday. Rev.
Collins conducted the sei-vices and
she was buried in tlje cemetery at
Commerce.
Mrs. R. H. Whithead is visiting
her daughtei', Mrs. Paul McCui-lly,
at Elberton for several days.
Mr. and Mi's. Hoyt Hanson were
visiting Mr. and Mrs. Craven re
cently.

The Home Demonstration Club
met with Mrs. G. H, Martin on last
Friday afternoon, 14 present. Miss
Bowman gave a demonstration on
clothing. The club presented Miss
Bowman with a beautiful vase in
appreciation of her work with them.
Delicious refreshments were served
by the hostess.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Wills spent
Sunday wth Mr. and Mrs. Jim Wills.
Miss Kate Coleman was visiting
her sister, Mrs. Walter Shields re
cently.
Mrs. G. H. Martin and Miss Ethel
Martin attended the singing at Toc
coa Sunday.
Rev. W. B. Hughes preached an
interesting sermon Sunday. We
voted to have a Home Coming here
the 3rd Sunday is June.

A religious service was held at
the home of Mrs. Cynthia Freeman
on Sunday afternoon, conducted by
Rev. Cochran.

have his arm kicked by a mule on
Monday.

days ago and presented them with a
10 lb. daughter, who has been
named Frankie Patricia.
UNITY
Preaching services were well at
tended Sunday and Sunday night,
and the pastor, Rev. J. W. Sosebee,
was presented with a beautiful quilt.
This brings to a close the Quilt Con
test that was sponsored by Mrs. Ed
Troutt and other ladies of the
church. The contest netted $26.75,
which was very helpful to our
church work. Miss Adell Thomas re
ceived the prize for having the most
beautiful square, and Mrs. Frank
Damoth received the prize for ob
taining the most names. The quilt
ing party at Mrs. Ed Troutt’s last
Wednesday was enjoyed by a large
number.

well, although the rainfall has been
deficient, but much
would be made if rain comes soon.
Sunday school at Academy con
tinues to hold on and make some
improvement. We are glad to wel
come all who come and help.
Some say “Poke Sallet” and some

PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
Beginning May 25 and continuing
the following week, there will be
special services held each evening.
Rev. Marion G. Bradwell of Central
church, Athens, will be the preacher.
Sei-vices will be held each evening at
8 o’clock. The public is cordially

NEW PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
ORGANIZED
A commission appointed by Athens
Presbytery in session at Elberton
April 15, 1941, met at Statham April
27, to investigate a petition of
Pleasant Hill congregation asking
,for the organization of a Presbyter
ian church. This commission, con
sisting of Revs. M. G. Bradwell, Rev.
J. G. Hand, Rev. J. E. Coker and
elder J. C. Turner \>f Jefferson, con
vened at 2:30 o’clock, found a laige
congregation waiting. At the close
of the worship hour, the petition
! was presented, in order, and the
church was organized with 110 mem
bers. This church will be enrolled
in Athens Presbytery.
