mules sheared, getting ready for
farm work. He has greatly improved
in the last few weeks.
We noticed in minutes of Athens
Presbytery that the church had
been underpinned- ?n looking
around we saw some substantial
native rock pillars had been re
built and repaired at a cost of S3O
and the work was paid for by Clyde
H. Barnett, a non-resident mem
ber of Wesf Palm Beach, Fla.
While doing some repair work
for Mrs. Attaway on the Athens
Road, just out of town, several
days ago, we saw a large truck load
ed with six tons of Elberton granite
with one wheel off on ground, and
the white men seemed to be in no
hurry to get it repaired. It develop
ed that they had put in a call to
headquarters in Kentucky and on
Sunday a repair crew with parts
arrived and it was soon on its way
to the distant state.
COLORED SOLDIERS
INJURED IN WRECK
Recently at Mandan, N. D., a train
transporting colored soldiers was
wrecked and many of its passengers
had to be carried to a hospital.
Among the soldiers on this train
was Cpl. Charlie Johnson, son of
John Johnson, the janitor at the
court house in this county. At the
Snelling Station Hospital where
they were carried they not only
have received the very best medical
treatment, but have been entertain
ed day by day by the W. A. N. D. S.,
who are doing a wonderful job of
cheering them up, distributing
books and candy and giving them
entertainment f with music and
songs.
