RETCH MARTIN, COL.
NEEDS HIS PENSION
Fletch Martin, a colored citizen
who lived in Jackson County for a
number of years, is now farming
in Banks County and has the en
dorsement of Editor Hilton of the
Banks County Journal for an Old
Age Pension. Hilton says:
“Fletch Martin, one of Banks’
best colored farmers was in Homer
Tuesday to make application for his
old age pension. Fletch was eligible
a year ago for this pension and
should have it. He has done much
work in his life, but, like most of
us, he failed to save enough for old
age. Georgia pays but little, but
that is a great help to many of the
old folks. A woman about Fletch’s
age came down a few years ago
from a city in New Jersey and mar
ried Fletch. After a honeymoon
lasting a few months, the bride re
turned to city life in the North and
Fletch kept on following the mule
up and down the cotton rows.
Fletch is the kind of person the old
age pension is intended for.

QUINTS MARK
14TH BIRTHDAY
VERY LADYLIKE
CALLANDER, Ontario.—The
Dionne quintuplets were 14 years
old on May 28th, and they took a
day off from school for a quiet
birthday party.
There were gifts and a five
layer cake topped by 14 candles.
But the radio show, the exploding
photographers' bulbs, the swarms
of newsmen, and other fanfare
that marked other birthdays of
the famous five girls was missing.
This was in keeping with the
wishes of Papa and Mama Dionne.
They believe that the quints, An
nette, Cecile, Emilie, Yvonne and
Marie should have a chance to
live normally and quietly now
that they are growing young la
dies.
