Miss Norma Louise Nix, daughter

of Jacksonville, Fla., and grand

Edward Hendricks, Jr., son of Mr.
and Mrs. R. E Hendricks, of Jack
sonville, at an impressive ceremony
taking place at Riverside Baptist
Church in Jacksonville. Dr. James
A. Stewart, pastor, officiated at a
double ring ceremony.

Bridge Club, entertaining her guests
in a most gracious manner at her
lovely country home.

on Thursday, August 25, for an all
day study of the book, Newness of
Life, by Estelle C. Carver. The la
dies were favored with a very en
lightening discussion led by Rev.
Lamar Watkins, of Jefferson.
We were delighted to have as vis
itors Mrs. tester Legg, Mrs. Ray,
Mrs. Berth* Gibbs, and Mrs. Frank
Wilson, of Dry Pond and Mrs. G. T.
Shell of Maysville.
Each lady brought a covered dish
for lunch. .Fourteen ladies of the
Holly Springs society were present.

Miss Annie Lyle and Arthur Brad
bury was solemnized at the First
Baptist pastorium in Commerce
Friday, August 12. The officiating
minister was the Rev. C. C. Tooke.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. J. J. LLyle of Maysville.
The groom is the son of Mr. J. M.
Bradbury, of Lawrenceville.
Mr. and Mrs. Bradbury will re
side in Commerce.
U. D. C. Meeting Held
In Gainesville Thursday
Mrs. J. C. Bennett, Mrs. Mattie
Bell Roberts, Mrs. Scott Murphy
and Mrs. Lanis Ethridge, of the Jef
ferson Chapter, United Daughters
of the Confederacy, were guests on
last Thursday of the Longstreet
Chapter in Gainesville, at a meet
ing to discuss plans for the fifty
fourth annual State Convention of
the U. D. C., which will convene in
Gainesville on October 26—28.
Hostesses for this occasion will be
the Longstreet Chapter, Gainesville,
Barrow County Chapter, Winder,
and Jefferson Chapter, Jefferson.
A large crowd of ladies were pres
ent at the meeting on Thursday and
after all business was transacted, a
social hour was enjoyed and de
licious refreshments were served.

Union Feted Saturday
Members of Oconee B. T. U. were
delightfully entertained Saturday
evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
A. M. Head and Miss Montine Head.
The music room, living room and
dining room were thrown together,
making a lovely setting for the large
assemblage.
Group singing and many interest
ing games were greatly enjoyed.
Delicious refreshments were serv
ed to forty-five guests.

Village Club Met
At Recreation Center
The regular monthly meeting of
the Jefferson Mills Village Club was
held in the Club Room of the new
Recreation Building on Sept. 6th,
at 7:30 p. m. with 22 members pre
sent.
Mrs. Ramsey opened the meeting
with prayer. The minutes of the
last meeting were read and ap
proved.
The Membership Committee has
been doing some good work, having
enrolled several new members re
cently.
The Benevolence Committee re
ported fruits and fruit juices sent
to sick people in the community.
All members wish to express their
appreciation to every one who help
ed on the Rouge Project. The nice
sum of $192.12 was cleared—one
half of which goes to the Benevo
lence Fund and the other half into
the club treasury.
A nominating committee to elect
new officers for 1949-50 was ap
pointed as follows: Mrs. George
Whitehead, chairman; Mrs. Henry
Varnum, Mrs. Roy Meade, Mrs.
Grace Craig and Mrs. Joe Davis.
Hostesses for the next meeting
are: Mrs. L. E. Carlyle, Mrs. Adele
Couch, Mrs. Sarah Lynn, Mrs. Mil
dred Gasaway, Misses Jewell Alex
ander and Viola Gasaway.
After the business meeting, deli
cious' refreshments and a social hour
were enjoyed.

few acorns this year on white oak

Clyde Barnett, who came up from
his West Palm Beach home to visit
relatives in his native county, and
rushed back home because of the
hurricane that was headed for that
city, returned this week to com
plete his visit. He reported great
damage to property in West Palm
Beach. His property escaped with
only one tenant house unroofed.
