Sealey’s Deer
Cooler taking
deer donations
Sealey’s Deer Cooler, located at
5675 South Apple Valley Road in
Jefferson, will be accepting donated
deer as part of the Department of
Natural Resources’ annual Hunters for
the Hungry program.
The Georgia Hunters for the Hungry
program begins each September
with the start of deer season,
offering hunters across the state an
opportunity to donate low-fat, low-
cholesterol venison to benefit those
in need. Participating processors
collect and prepare the venison for
distribution via the Georgia State
Association of Food Banks. Over
the past 15 years, participation has
steadily increased and the Georgia
Department of Natural Resources,
Wildlife Resources Division (WRD)
recently recognized a donation which
represented the one-millionth meal to
be served through the program.
That donation was made at Sealey’s
Deer Cooler located just outside of
Jefferson. Representatives of the
Georgia Wildlife Federation and the
Athens branch of the Georgia State
Association of Food Banks were on
hand when James Pirkle of Buford
made the donation which represented
the one-millionth meal served through
the program. Sealey’s Deer Cooler will
be accepting deer donations through
Jan. 1 during regular business hours.
For additional information, call
706-335-9304.
Jefferson to
host softball
banquet Thurs.
The Jefferson City Schools softball
banquet will be held Thursday at
the Jefferson High School cafeteria
beginning at 7 p.m.
The night’s event will honor the
system's middle school, junior varsity
and varsity softball teams from this
past season.
For more information on the ban
quet, call the Jefferson High School
athletic department at 706-367-8064.
Hunters’ input
requested on
dove season
In response to recent public
comment regarding Georgia’s
dove hunting season structure,
the Georgia Department of Natural
Resources, Wildlife Resources
Division (WRD) has created a
convenient online dove season
questionnaire, available at www.
gohuntgeorgia.com. The purpose
of the questionnaire is to provide
hunters an opportunity to share
their opinions on certain aspects
of Georgia’s current dove hunting
season schedule. The 2007-2008
season runs Sept. 1-15, Oct. 6-15
and Nov. 22 - Jan. 5. Question
naire responses will be considered
as public input in the Department’s
effort to evaluate potential season
alternatives.
