Jefferson Garden Club presents awards
THE JEFFERSON Garden Club presented
annual Environmentalist of the Year awards
at its October meeting. Recipients were Jeff
Killip, Roy Plott and Mary Cobb Dugan, who
were recognized for their efforts in the beauti
fication of downtown Jefferson.
Killip, director of public works, and Plott,
a volunteer with Better Hometown Jefferson,
were acknowledged for their efforts in the
completion of the Marlowe Park project.
Killip and Plott were instrumental in the
design and installation of the hardscape, includ
ing the wall, the fountain and the pergola.
The park has been an ongoing project of the
Jefferson Garden Club, which provided the
plants, shrubs and trees for the landscape.
Dugan was recognized for her efforts in
organizing the donation and planting of trees in
Curry Creek Park as part of the annual Arbor
Day celebration. Dugan has been instrumen
tal in Jefferson’s being designated a Tree City,
USA.
Nicholson library group to begin Christmas plans

library to plan “Christmas at
the Library.”

THE J.E.B. Stuart Chapter
of the United Daughters of
the Confederacy will hold
its monthly meeting at the
Commerce Public Library at
10:30 a.m. Sat., Nov. 8.

Support group proposed for families with autistic children
A LOCAL couple is hoping
to start a support group for
families with autistic children.
Charlie and Shea Holley,
Jefferson, would like to be
contacted by other parents of
children diagnosed within all
levels of the autism spectrum
to start a local support group.
The Holleys said they want
to share with others what they
have learned, to talk with other
parents and to offer and seek
support.
