Crime and court policy
IT IS THE policy of this
newspaper to print the names of
all persons arrested and booked
through the Jackson County
Jail. No exceptions are made to
that policy.
This newspaper also routine
ly publishes the names of those
involved in criminal court cases
as those actions make their way
through the judicial system,
including the final disposition
of the case when it is known.
We caution our readers, how
ever, that an arrest is not a
conviction and an individual is
presumed innocent under the
law until convicted of a crime
for which he has been charged.
In addition to arrest reports,
we also routinely publish items
from incident reports filed with
local law enforcement agen
cies. Most of the time, the
names of those involved are not
published unless one party has
been officially charged with a
crime.
Details of major local fires
and wrecks are also reported on
these pages.
