JHS CLASS OF 1952 HOLDS REUNION
Members of the Jefferson High School classes of 1952 and 1953 held their
annual class reunion on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Old School Fish House. JHS

Jackson County 4-H Club’s Love of Llamas group participates in fall shows

Christmas parades

of Llamas” 4-H Club par
ticipated in three Southern
States Llama Association
(SSLA) shows around the
southeast this fall.
Club members Angela
Hulsey, Taylor Brown,
Tristan Gaskins, Madison
Prchal and Hali Sauls all
participated, showing llamas
at the different shows.
Taylor Brown participated
in the Heart of Dixie SSLA
show in Huntsville, Ala., on
September 12-14, and won
Grand Reserve Champion.
She won second in Junior
Youth Showmanship, fourth
in Yearling Light Wool
Female, second in Junior
Youth Obstacle, second
in Junior Youth Pack, sec
ond in Junior Youth Public
Relations.

and Tristan Gaskins partici
pated in the SSLA Regional
Show in Gainesville on

obstacle contests.
In addition, Hulsey won
$95 total, after placing
third in Intermediate Youth
Pack, fourth in Intermediate
Youth Obstacle, third
in Intermediate Youth
Public Relations, first
in Intermediate Youth
Showmanship, second in
Light Wool Male Yearling
Halter Class, fifth in the top
five for Light Wool Males
and third in the Halter
Costume Contest.
Gaskins won fifth in Junior
Youth Pack, fifth in Junior
Youth Public Relations, fifth
in Junior Youth Obstacle,
top five in overall perfor
mance, second in Junior
Youth Showmanship and
second in Costume Contest.
Sauls won a total of $20,
with third place in Junior
Youth Pack, fourth in Junior
Youth Public Relations,
fourth in Junior Youth
Obstacles, third in Junior
Youth Showmanship and
fourth in the Junior Youth
Best of Class Top 5.
Hulsey and Gaskins also
participated in the Georgia
National Fair in Perry

Obstacles, Public Relations
and Showmanship, as well as
third in Light Wool Yearling
Male Halter Class.
Gaskins won second in
Junior Youth Pack, third
in Junior Youth Public
Relations and Obstacle,
first in Junior Youth
Showmanship and second in
Light Wool Yearling Male
Halter Class.
The club also participated
in the Maysville Autumn
Leaf Festival on October
4 by dressing the animals
up and participating in the
parade.
The club is scheduled to
participate in the Jefferson
and Commerce holiday
parades in December.
UPCOMING EVENTS
The group is also scheduled
to attend the Southern State
Llama Association’s Annual
Conference in Dahlonega
in March. Southern State
Llama Association’s (SSLA)
Spring Show season will
start up again in March of
2009.
Chelian Farm’s “Love
of Llama” 4-H Program
along with Jackson County
4-H, will be hosting
their first annual “Lucky
Llamapalooza” April 2-5 at
the University of Georgia
Instructional Arena in
Athens.
The program will offer
hands-on clinics such as
showmanship, obstacles,
packing, public relation,
basic handling and training
for the youth, as well as
clinics for farmers.

NEW MEMBERS
WELCOME
The club is still accepting
new members. The program
is a year-round and encour
ages children to learn and be
involved with llamas. The
educational program teaches
the history, daily care, health
management, grooming,
training, showing, judging,
fiber crafts and other fun
involvement with llamas.
Chelian Farm in Jefferson
hosts the program, and stu
dents don’t have to own
or purchase a llama to be
involved. There is a morn
ing program from 9 a.m. to
noon on Mondays for home
school groups, along with an
after-school program from 4
to 7 p.m. on Mondays.
