Giving thanks
A FEW weeks
ago, a good
friend of
mine received some
devastating news. Her
little girl’s cancer had
returned. The past
couple of weeks have
been rough for the
single mom of two, as
well as the child who
had to face another
uncertain surgery.
Another friend called
just the other day with the
news that her husband had
lost his job. With only a
couple of years left before
his retirement, the compa
ny had filed bankruptcy.
I was talking to a rela
tive this past weekend who
asked that we pray for a
young lady who
was paralyzed
from a brain
aneurysm. She
has two small
children who
don’t under
stand what has
happened to
mommy.
Our neighbor
has a son over
seas on the mission field.
A few days ago, he was
finally able to sneak and
make a quick call home.
He has very little freedom
to communicate with the
outside world in the area in
which he is living.
So often we complain
about the trivial things in
life. We tend to live in our
own little world, dealing
with our own little prob
lems, often not realizing
that we have so much to be
thankful for.
Lord, thank you for my
healthy little girl who
wakes me up from my
deepest sleep in the middle
of the night only to need
a sip of water, or to be
tucked back in bed.
Thank you for the job
which you have provided
for me, even on the morn
ings when I feel too tired
or lazy to get out of bed.
Thank you for my arms,
which I am able to use to
embrace my husband and
children.
Thank you for the free
dom that I have to commu
nicate with my family and
friends at all times.
Please forgive me for
complaining about the lit
tle annoyances in my life,
which don’t even matter
within a few hours.
During this holiday sea
son, reflect upon the things
in your life, which you
may be taking for grant
ed, such as your family,
health, job and freedom.
More than likely, you will
find that the things you
take for granted are the
things that you are most
thankful for.
