Senior Vice Commander, Gene Bennett of the Albert Gordon American Legion,
Post 56, Jefferson, presents a certificate of appreciation to Sergeant Justin Teston
and Sergeant First Class Patrick Betteridge, both U.S. Army Recruiters from the
Athens Recruiting Station. Sgt. Teston and Sgt. First Class Betteridge were the
guest speakers at the Nov. 19 Legion meeting.
Legion Post 56 meeting set Jan. 17
THE LEGION Post 56 in Jefferson will not
meet in December and will gather on Jan. 17,
2009.
The guest speaker will be Gordon Sawyer,
who authored the book, “Richard Kidder:
WWII SURVIVOR. Manila to Bataan. To
Corregidor. To Cabanatuan POW. To a Hell
Ship. To Umeda Bunsho POW in Osaka. To
Tsuraga POW. To Home, Alive.” Kidder was
a POW in the Pacific during WWII.
The guest speaker for the Feb. 17 meeting
will be Elizabeth Lowa, who at the age of 12
was captured during WWII in the Philippines
along with her family.
She was not released until the end of the
war.

basic military training at
Lackland Air Force Base,
San Antonio, Texas.
He is the son of Dennis
Griffeth, Jefferson, and
Rika Griffeth, Appling.
Griffeth is a 2008 gradu
ate of Greenbrier High
School, Evans.
‘YART SALE’ RAISED MORE THAN
$1,100 FOR BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB
A two-day “Yart Sale” recently hosted by Don Byram
Art at Banks Crossing raised more than $1,100 for the
Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County. Community
members and companies donated artwork to be sold
at the sale and also volunteered time. Boys and Girls
Club board member Cindy Patterson is shown adver
tising the sale.
RECEIVES DONATION
Wellspring Camp, a local Christian camp in Jackson County for those with disabili
ties and special needs, received a grant from Sam’s Club in Bogart. The grant will
be used in the future purchase of a handicap accessible mini-bus. The bus will be
used to transport campers on activities in the community. Shown are: (L-R) Rody

Christian camp in Jackson
County serving those with
developmental disabilities
and special needs. At the
spa night, campers and
their families had dinner, as
well as spa treatments such
as haircuts, facials, mani
cures, pedicures and mas
sages. The entire evening
was provided free of charge,
with local businesses par
ticipating in the donations.
The event was hosted by
Illusions Salon in Jefferson,
with Beef O’ Brady’s donat
ing dinner for the event.

ed by Kroger of Jefferson
and Georgia Massage
Institute of Winder.
Blood drive coming up Dec. 15 in Braselton
LIFESOUTH WILL hold a blood drive on
Monday, Dec. 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30
p.m., at Hometown Community Bank, located
at 6700 Ga. Hwy. 53, Braselton.
All LifeSouth donors through Dec. 15 will
be entered in a drawing to win a Nintendo Wii,
including Wii Fit. All donors will also receive
a regular recognition item, plus a reusable gro
cery bag, a complimentary cholesterol screen
ing and blood typing, and 12 months cover
