JHS recognizes Oct. 3D Award winners
JEFFERSON High School has named
the “3D Award” winners for October.
Recognized are Wesley Milton, 12th
grade; Joshua Deremer, 11th grade;
Josh Flowers, 10th grade; and Laura
Price, ninth grade.
The 3D Student of the Month Award
is part of the JHS incentive program
and is awarded monthly to four stu
dents - one per grade level - based
on dependability, dedication and dili
gence. Students are nominated and
chosen by JHS staff and those selected
get lunch off campus with the principal
and assistant principal, a T-shirt, photo
recognition in the school lobby and a
certificate of recognition at the honors
brunch.
MILTON
Wesley Milton is the son of Sheila
Milton-Granum and Cheno Milton.
He is a four-year varsity cross coun
try runner and a four-year varsity run
ner. Milton is president of the FBLA
and is a member of the First Georgia
Bank Junior Board of Directors,
Interact Club, Beta Club and Total
Person Program.
Milton is a four-time 3D Award
winner and a two-time Athlete of the
Week. He was named Most Valuable
Runner in cross country and in track in
2007. He has been named to the honor
roll and for outstanding performance in
psychology.
Milton's favorite classes are 12th
grade literature and psychology.
He plans to attend college and pur
sue a career in psychology.
DEREMER
Joshua Deremer is the son of Glenn
and Ellen Deremer.
He is active in cross country, soc
cer, Spanish Club, Interact Club,
Soccer Club. Beta Club, Total Person
Program, Boy Scouts of America and
First Baptist Church youth group.
Deremer is an Eagle Scout, secretary
of the Spanish Club and president of
the Soccer Club. He has been named
Runner of the Week.
Deremer's favorite subjects are math,
Spanish and science.
He plans to attend Berry College
or Georgia Tech and earn a degree in
architecture or engineering.
FLOWERS
Josh Flowers is the son of Mickey
and Stacie Flowers.
He is active in golf and football, and
has lettered in each.
Flowers’ favorite subject is math.
He plans to attend college on a golf
scholarship and then play golf in the
PGA.
PRICE
Laura Price is the daughter of Larry
and Arline Price.
She is involved in cross country and
track.
Price has been recognized by the
Duke University TIP. She was nominat
ed to attend the Junior National Young
Leaders Conference and has received
the Rotary Youth Merit Award.
Price’s favorite classes are honor lit
erature and American government.
She plans to attend college.

Nov. Rotary Students of the Month recognized
THE NOVEMBER Rotary Students
of the Month have been named by
the Jefferson Rotary Club, includ
ing; Catherine Ball, Commerce High
School; Derek Shane Johnson, Jefferson
High School; Olivia Nordman, Jackson
County Comprehensive High School;
and Amber Puckett, East Jackson
Comprehensive High School.
BALL
Catherine Ball is the daughter of
Carl and JoAnn Ball.
Her classes include advanced place
ment environmental science; AP litera
ture and composition; chemistry; eco
nomics; government; and joint enroll
ment college courses at the University
of Georgia.
Ball is involved in Beta Club, Key
Club, the Commerce Leaders and Super
Students, and Academic Team.
She has been a Governor’s Honors
Program participant in mathematics,
is an AP scholar, has been named for
a UGA Certificate of Merit and is a
Presbyterian College Fellow. Ball is
the senior superlative named “Most
Likely to Succeed.” She had the high
est class average in ninth, 10th and
11th grade.
Ball named Matthew Dahlke as her
most influential teacher.
She plans to pursue a degree in biol
ogy/biomedical sciences and have a
career in medical research.
JOHNSON
Derek Shane Johnson is the son of
James and Diana Johnson.
He is taking citizenship, 12th grade
literature, economics, Spanish III and
IV, algebra III and driver’s education.
Johnson enjoys writing, reading,
music, guitar, playing electronics
games, football, soccer, tennis and bas
ketball. He is involved in JHS football
and is a BETA Club member.
Johnson chose Raygan Moak as his
most influential teacher.
He plans to attend a college with an
aeronautics program and major in aero
space engineering or to attend UGA to
major in medical engineering.
Johnson wants to travel the world as
a commercial airline pilot.
NORDMAN
Olivia Nordman is the daughter of
Robin and Gary Nordman.
Her classes include advanced eco
nomics, digital media design and pro
duction and algebra III for the first
semester and advanced desktop pub
lishing, advanced English literature
and composition, floral design and
management and digital media design
and production for the second semes
ter.
Nordman is involved in FFA and has
been the FFA secretary for two years.
She is also active in FBLA and is the
2008-09 FBLA membership recruiter.
Nordman won first place in the local
floral design competition for three
years and won the first place ribbon at
the Georgia National Fair at Perry for
two years. She won second place in the
area floral design competition last year
and sixth place at the state level.
Nordman won the Gold Emblem
Award in the senior division in floral
design and agricultural communica
tions last year. She won the Bronze
Emblem Award in senior poultry judg
ing last year and the Silver Emblem
Award in senior meats judging, senior
horse judging and senior floriculture
last year. She won the Outstanding
Floral Design Award last year.
Nordman has her FFA Greenhand
Degree, FFA Chapter Degree and FFA
State Degree. She won the 11th grade
Agricultural Education Academic
Award and has earned her FFA Chapter
Scholarship pin and FFA Chapter
Leadership pin.
Nordman named Robbie Buchanan
as her most influential teacher.
She plans to attend business school
and also to attend the Floral Design
Institute in Seattle, Wash. She wants to
become a floral designer and open her
own shop.
PUCKETT
Amber Puckett is the daughter of
Tanya Puckett.
Her classes include AP language, AP
economics, trigonometry and JROTC
for first semester.
She is a member of the National
English Honor Society, Future
Educators of America, the JROTC as
cadet battalion commander. Beta Club,
Talon Times newspaper staff, drill team
and JROTC color guard.
Puckett is a National Merit Scholar.
She has been named for the Presidential
Award for Academic Excellence and
the Superior Cadet Award.
She chose LTC Tom Taylor as her
most influential teacher.
Puckett is a member of the Georgia
Army National Guard and plans to
attend college in the spring of 2010 to
major in early childhood education.
She plans to attend either UGA or
North Georgia Military College on a
ROTC scholarship.
