Motorists get into dispute after wreck on 1-85
TWO PEOPLE who wrecked
on 1-85 near Commerce last
week got into a dispute follow
ing the accident.
The driver of one vehicle
said she got out of her car and
the other driver began yelling
at her, according to an inci
dent report filed at the Jackson
County Sheriff's Office. The
other driver said that a passen
ger in the woman’s car came
toward him with a knife.

PUBLIC MEETING
December 10, 2008
The Nicholson Water Authority hereby gives notice
that the Authority will hold a public meeting at 6 PM
on January 13, 2009 at the Nicholson Water
Authority.
The purpose of the public meeting is to:
1. Inform the public of the need for
improvements to the Authority’s water
system.
2. Comply with the requirements of the
Georgia’s Rules for Safe Drinking Water and
with the public participation requirements of
Georgia’s Drinking Water State Revolving
Fund (DWSRF) Environmental Review
Process.
3. Encourage public involvement in the
development of a plan to improve the water
system.
During the public meeting the Authority will attempt
to identify public preferences for alternative methods
of improving the Authority’s water facilities. These
alternatives will be evaluated and included in the
Authority’s Engineering Report and Environmental
Information Document, the major planning document
covering the water system.
Public participation is considered essential to the
selection and development of the final plan to be
adopted prior to its approval by the State of Georgia,
Department of Natural Resources.

SJFD receives FEMA grant
THE SOUTH Jackson Volunteer Fire Department has
received a $66,500 grant from the Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA).
The funds will be used for operations and safety, according
to FEMA.
Overall, FEMA awarded funds totaling $675,100 through
the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) in Georgia.
CERT offering CPR classes
to local groups, citizens
THE JACKSON County CERT (Community Emergency
Response Team) is offering a CPR class for residents, civic
clubs and businesses.
The cost is $25 per student with all proceeds benefiting
the Jackson County CERT program.
Instructors will come to the location requested by inter
ested groups. The classes are available during an on-going
basis.
