Reunion race to honor fallen soldiers
THE REUNION community in South Hall
will host the “Fallen Heroes of Georgia” 10K,
5K and IK fun run on Saturday, March 28.
The 10K will start at 8 a.m. and is a
Peachtree Road Race qualifier. The 5K will
start at 8:05 a.m., and the IK fun run will fol
low at 8:10 a.m. The race is open to all ages
and abilities.
The race is a joint effort of Operation One
Voice and the Reunion Golf Community,
which is located on Thompson Mill Road,
near Chateau Elan. Each race will have a dif
ferent route through the community.
The American military will be represented
by as many branches as possible, including
vehicles and displays. Since Operation One
Voice is a police and firefighter-operated non
profit group, there will also be representatives
from local police and fire departments.
The race will honor the 135 American
soldiers from Georgia that have “paid the
ultimate sacrifice.”
Awards will be given in each category of
the race.
Pre-registration fees are $18 for the 10K/5K,
$50 for 5K family of four and $12 for the IK
fun run. The fees on race day are: $23 for
10K/5K, $65 for 5K for family of four, and
$15 for the IK fun run.
The pre-registration deadline is March
21. Online registration is available at www.
active.com. Checks may also be made pay
able to Operation One Voice and sent to
Fallen Heroes of Georgia Run, PO. Box
1955, Flowery Branch, GA 30542-9998.
Packets may be picked on Friday, March
27, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., or on race day,
from 6:30-8 a.m., at 5615 Grand Reunion
Drive.

Hospice seeks bereavement volunteers
HOSPICE OF Northeast
Georgia Medical Center
(NGMC) needs caring indi
viduals to volunteer their time
and compassion to help serve
grieving individuals during
the year following the death
of their loved one.
Volunteers may provide
phone support or visits to the
bereaved or may help with
hospice grief support groups.
Volunteer opportunities
will accommodate anyone’s
schedule and interest whether
they want to provide support
and companionship for griev
ing individuals on a regular
basis or help with an event
or group periodically. Many
flexible options are available
that will allow anyone the
opportunity to volunteer with
Hospice of NGMC.

Mobile low cost spay/neuter unit
THE NON-PROFIT Leftover Pets/The Pet
Mechanics will be bringing a mobile spay/neuter
unit to Jackson County January 5,6,19 and 20.
Surgery patients can be as young as eight weeks.
All dogs and cats that are at least three months of
age at the time of surgery will receive a free rabies
vaccine.
Prices are as follows: female dog, $60; male dog,
$45; female cat, $45; and male cat, $30. There is no
extra charge if a female is in heat or pregnant.

Scholastic book fair coming up Jan. 10-15
THE GAINESVILLE State College Education
Club is sponsoring a Scholastic Book Fair,
Saturday through Thursday, Jan. 10- 15.
The book fair is open to the public. Books are
buy-one-get-one free.
The book fair will be held in the GSC Student
Activities Building Ballroom and will be open:
Saturday, Jan. 10, from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.;
Sunday, Jan. 11, from noon to 6 p.m.; and,
Monday through Thursday, Jan. 12-15, from 9
a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
