Excellence” by Cynthia
Heald will be taught at
both times. The study will
explore scriptural teaching
on what it means to pursue
excellence in all areas of
women’s lives, leaders state.

Jefferson First United
Methodist Church will hold
a series of weekly fel
lowships, the next one being
Thursday, Jan. 15, at 9 a.m.
These meetings will be held,
leaders state, “to address the
community’s need for a con
venient way for job seekers to
meet other people, exchange
ideas and hone their career
search skills.” The Thursday,
Jan. 29, meeting will have
guest speaker, Dr. Howard
Ledford, director of the
Jackson County campus of
Lanier Technical College. Dr.
Ledford will share his insights
on re-training opportuni
ties available at Lanier Tech.
Everyone in the community is
invited. This is not a job fair
and no offers, applications or
positions are available. The
cost is $1 per person, to pay
for doughnuts and coffee. The
meetings will be held in the
fellowship hall behind the
church, located at 188 Martin

First Love Outreach
Center, Commerce, is hold
ing its “Fifth Anniversary
Celebration” at 7 p.m. nightly
through Friday, Jan. 16. The

Blackwelder, all graduates
of RHEMA Bible Training
Center in Tulsa, Okla.
and pastors Lee and Kim
Robbins, graduates of Oral
Roberts University. Sunday,
January 18, at 10 a.m. a
service will be held with
pastors Lee & Kim Robbins,
with a meal to follow. The
Durants, Slaughter and
Blackwelder have all trav
eled with the Rev. Kenneth
E. Hagins ministry along
with the Rev. Keith E.
Holladay, who is the church

Jefferson First United
Methodist Church will hold
a ladies 3-day Bible study
Friday through Sunday, Jan.
16 - 18. The times are Friday,
6 - 8:30 p.m.; Saturday, 8
a.m. - 6:30 p.m. and Sunday,
2-5 p.m. The study is titled
“Anointed, Transformed,
Redeemed: A Study of
David” and will be led via
DVD by authors Kay Arthur,
Beth Moore and Priscilla
Shirer. The retreat is open to
all women in the com
munity ages 18 and up.
Pre-registration is request
ed and seating is limited
to first-come/first-serve.
The cost is $25 per person
and an optional work
book is an additional $15.

beverages throughout the
weekend and a lunch on

minute class preview for Dave
Ramsey’s “Financial Peace
University” on Sunday, Jan.
18, at 5 p.m. Ramsey teaches
about how to save money, live
on a budget, communicate
about money, eliminate debt,
find bargains and experience
the joy of giving, leaders state.

Galilee Christian Church,
Jefferson, is hosting a
ladies winter Bible study
about “Esther - It’s Tough
Being A Woman” by Beth
Moore. The ten-week course
began Monday, Jan. 5 and
Tuesday, Jan. 6. This unique
study leads women through
a journey of tragedy and tri
umph, teaching how to trust
God’s providence for the
tough times, leaders state. The
cost is $15 for the book, but
scholarships are available
upon request. All sessions will
be held at the worship cen
ter in room 401. The church

Nicholson Baptist Church
will hold a prophecy con
ference Sunday through
Wednesday, Jan. 25 - 28, at
7 p.m. nightly. Dr. Billy J.
Owensby will conduct the
conference. “Dr. Owensby
will teach about events like
the ‘Tribulation,’ ‘The
Rapture,’ ‘The Lord’s Return’
and the antichrist will be
revealed as the liar he is,”
leaders state. Dr. Owensby is
a native of Commerce and is
currently the pastor at Union
Baptist Church in Hull. He
has pastored other churches
in Louisiana and Northeast
Georgia. He is the founder
and president of North
Georgia Baptist Theological
Seminary and S.T.E.P.
Ministries (Spiritually
Training & Equipping
People). Dr. Owensby
holds an ADiv Degree and
a BGS Degree from New
Orleans Baptist Theological
Seminary. He is also a gradu
ate of Bethany Theological
Seminary where he earned a
Master Degree and is also a
graduate of Louisiana Baptist
Theological Seminary from
which he earned a Doctor
of Ministry. Other works by
Dr. Owensby include, “The

Sermons,” “The Expositor’s
Notes: I Timothy,” “The
Expositor’s Notes: 1-2-3 John”
and “Revelation: The Time Is

Zion Hill Baptist Church,

a gospel singing Saturday,
Jan. 31, at 6 p.m. The fea
tured singers will be the Zion
Gospel Singers and the New

Commerce First United
Methodist Church’s youth
group will go on a winter
retreat Friday through Sunday,
February 27 - March 1, for
Bible study and fellowship
in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. There
will be an outing on Saturday
to Ober Gatlinburg to ski or
to snow tube. The group will
also be a part of a community
service project sponsored by
World Vision called “Hoops
of Hope.” The money raised
will benefit orphaned chil
dren in Africa. It’ll be a great
project, leaders state. For

will also sell Krispy Kreme
certificates for $5 per dozen.
There is no expiration date
on the certificate. Profits will
help defray the costs of the
winter retreat. The Youth
Group is looking for commu
nity service projects. Anyone
