LIONS CLUB HONORS GEE

Book sale ahead at Jefferson library
THE ANNUAL Friends of
the Jefferson Public Library
book sale will be held from
9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday,
Jan. 30, and from 9 a.m. to
4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at
the Jefferson Civic Center.
There will be lots of used
adult and kids hardbacks
and paperbacks, as well as
VHS and DVDs at great
prices, said branch manager
Amy Carlan.
For the first time, the
Friends will also offer baked
goods and coffee.
Proceeds from the sale
will help the library fund
programming and new
books.

AARP to offer Jefferson Tax Aide Program
TAXPAYERS will be assisted
in preparation and filing of fed
eral and state income tax returns
at the Jefferson clubhouse from
1 to 5 p.m. on Thursdays from
February 5 though April 9.
The free service is provided
by volunteer counselors under
the sponsorship of the IRS and
AARP. The service is intended
for taxpayers of low to mod
erate income, with preference
to, but not restricted to, senior
citizens.
Membership in AARP is not
a requirement, however, cer
tain complex details of the tax
code may be considered to be
beyond the scope of this ser
vice.
Taxpayers are asked to sign
up in person or by representa
tive at the site on Thursdays.
Taxpayers will be served in the
order of their appearance on a
sign-up list. Typically, Tax-Aide
is able to take care of at least 15
taxpayers in one session.

Local autism support group to meet Friday

A JEFFERSON couple will host a support
group for families with autistic children, with
the first meeting set for 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday,
Jan. 16.
Charlie and Shea Holley say they want to share
with others what they have learned, to talk with
other parents and to seek and offer support.

JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
JACKSON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE AND FIRE TRAINING CENTER
Proposals will be opened and read aloud at 67 Athens St., Manager’s Conference Room,
Jefferson, Georgia 30549 at 11:00 A.M. EST. Proposals received after the designated time will
not be considered. The OWNER of the project is the Jackson County Board of Commissioners.
The approximate extent and character of the Work is generally described as follows:
Furnish and install complete furniture package for the new Jackson County Sheriff’s
Office and the Jackson County Fire Training Center.
Bidders shall inform themselves concerning Georgia Laws and comply with same.
Bidding Documents will be available for review and purchase by prospective Bidders at the
Jackson County Purchasing Department, located at 67 Athens St., Room 204,
Jefferson, Georgia 30549, Telephone Number: 706-367-6309. Questions regarding the bid
process should be directed to this same office. Questions regarding the plans or specifications
should be directed to Don Clerici, Consultant Capital Projects Manager, at 706-387-6436 or
dclerici@jacksoncountygov.com.
Bidding Documents may be obtained upon payment of $50, non-refundable. All Bids must be
on the BID PROPOSAL UNIT PRICE FORM furnished with the Plans and Contract documents.
Any deviation from the bid proposal or the construction drawings must be explained on a
separate sheet of paper and attached to the bid proposal.
The time allowed for Completion is 60 days from the date of the Notice to Proceed.
Each Bid must be accompanied by a Bid Bond with good and sufficient surety or sureties
approved by the owner for faithful acceptance of the contract. Payable to, in favor of, and for
the protection of the OWNER in an amount equivalent to five percent (5%) of the total amount
payable by the terms of the contract or, in lieu thereof, in the form of a certified check,
cashier’s check, or cash in equal amount.
The Successful Bidder will be required to furnish performance and payment bonds, for 100%
of the contract amount, with the executed Agreement meeting the requirements of the Contract
Documents and executed on the forms attached to the Agreement. The terms and time for
payment are set forth in the Agreement.
Surety and insurance companies must have an AM Best rating of A-6 or greater, be listed in
the Federal Registry of Companies holding Certificates of Authority and Acceptable Sureties on
Federal Bonds, be licensed by the Georgia Insurance Department and the Georgia Secretary of
State to do business in the State of Georgia.
Requests for payments are due by the Fifth (5 th ) of the month for the payment by the
Twentieth (20 th ) of the month less 10% retainage. Retainage will be held until final acceptance
of the project by Jackson County.
All Bids will remain subject to acceptance for 60 days after the day of the Bid opening, but
OWNER may, in its sole discretion, release any Bid and return the Bid security prior to that
date.
Each bid must be submitted in a SEALED ENVELOPE, addressed to the OWNER. Each
sealed envelope containing a Bid must be plainly marked on the outside as, “Jackson County
Sheriffs Office and Jackson County Fire Training Center.” If bid is forwarded by mail,
the sealed envelope containing the Bid must be enclosed in a separate mailing envelope to the
attention of the OWNER at the address previously given.
The Owner reserves the right to reject any or all Bids, to waive formalities and re-advertise.
