WITH THE post-season
looming on the horizon, the
East Jackson Eagles continued
their strong drive last week as
they defeated North Oconee
and Rabun County, and then
dropped a game to Jefferson
over the weekend.
Now the Eagles look to wrap
up their regular season on a
high note, as they prepare to
travel to Banks County to face
the Leopards Friday night.
Tip-off Friday night is sched
uled for 8:30 p.m.
NORTH OCONEE
East Jackson started out their
week on Tuesday with a trip
to North Oconee to face the
Titans. The Eagles had won
the previous meeting of the two
teams back on January 13, and
was hoping to have more of the
same against them this time.
East Jackson took control
early, building up a 25-9 lead
in the first quarter. The second
quarter was more of the same,
with the Eagles outscoring the
Titans 18-6 to carry a 43-15
score into the half.
The second half of the game
saw East Jackson continue their
domination of the court, and in
the end, the Eagles came away
with a 70-36 victory.
Kolby Gilbert led the team in
scoring with 29 points, while
Standrick Stephens scored
10. Eleven of the 12 players
that played in the game scored
against the Titans.
“North Oconee brought out
one of the best efforts by our
team all season,” said coach
Brian Turner. “We had empha
sized not taking time off dur
ing practice or the game and
throughout the game our
defense caused North Oconee
many problems.”
RABUN COUNTY
Next up was a home stand for
the Eagles, as they played host
to Rabun County on Friday.
It was a rough and physi
cal game on both sides, while
the Eagles struggled with their
shooting game. East Jackson
took an early lead, and never
gave it up thanks to their defen
sive effort causing 34 turnovers,
giving the Eagles some easy
offensive baskets. In the end,
East Jackson came away with
a close 55-50 victory over the
Wildcats.
Gilbert again led the Eagles
in scoring with 16 points,
while Terry Cox scored 14 and
Stephens scored 11.
JEFFERSON
On Saturday, the Eagles trav
eled to Jefferson with a chance
to fie the Dragons for the subre
gion lead.
East Jackson jumped out to
an early lead, carrying a 17-10
lead out of the first quarter. But
the Eagles were unable to trap
the Dragons on defense, while
the offense gave Jefferson the
momentum they needed to take
a 29-24 lead at the half.
Jefferson continued to con
trol the game in the second half,
and in the end came away with
a 59-48 victory.
Stephens was the only player
to reach double figures in scor
ing against Jefferson, recording
19 points on the night.
The Eagles were slated to
play host to Oglethorpe County
in their final home game of the
season on Tuesday. Results
were unavailable at press time.

THE LADY Eagles of East
Jackson are running out of time
and opportunity to end their
skid, and get a few more marks
in the win column before the
end of the regular season. Last
week, East Jackson dropped
games to North Oconee, Rabun
County and Jefferson, making
them 6-17 overall, and 1-9 in
the region.
The Lady Eagles have one
more chance to add to their
win column, as they travel to
Banks County Friday in their
regular season finale against
the Lady Leopards.
Banks County was victori
ous in the previous meeting of
the two teams, winning 40-34,
and is currently third in the
subregion.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7
p.m. on Friday in Homer.
East Jackson is the num
ber four seed in next week's
region tournament at EJCHS.
The Lady Eagles will first face
number five seed Oglethorpe
on Monday, with the winner
of that game facing Rabun
County on Tuesday in the first
round of region play.
NORTH OCONEE
After a loss back in January
to North Oconee, the Lady
Eagles were hoping for a little
revenge last Tuesday when
they traveled to play the Lady
Titans.
North Oconee took an early
lead, moving out to a 10-8
advantage at the end of the first
quarter. East Jackson fought
back, and took the lead away
from the Lady Titans in the
second quarter to carry a 17-14
lead into the half.
The game remained close in
the third quarter, with North
Oconee holding a slight advan
tage with a 28-24 lead. But the
wheels came off for the Lady
Eagles in the fourth quarter,
as North Oconee held them
scoreless, and went on to win
46-24.
Autumn Wilbanks led the
Lady Eagles in scoring with
seven points, while Caroline
Hicks scored six. Shelby
Johnson had three assists.
Hicks had 10 rebounds, while
Kaitlin Hill had eight and
Mikki McGinnis had seven.
“We played a very good
three quarters but you have to
play four quarters to win a ball
game,” coach Amy Larimer
said. “We let their pressure
man dictate what we did and
we were unable to produce in
the fourth quarter.”
RABUN COUNTY
Next up was a home stand
against Rabun County, as the
Lady Eagles again looked to
get back in the winner’s col
umn, while Rabun looked to
remain undefeated in region
play.
The first quarter told the tale,
as the Lady Wildcats outscored
East Jackson 32-8 to build a
huge early lead. The Lady
Eagles worked to close the
gap, and at the half had cut the
lead to 20 points, 48-28.
But Rabun County contin
ued to control the game in the
second half, holding the Lady
Eagles to only four points while
they added another 11 to their
score to make it a 59-32 game
at the end of the third. The
Lady Eagles again mounted a
charge, but it was not enough,
as they fell 68-47.
Wilbanks led in scoring
with 13 points, while Hicks
scored nine, Callie Moore
scored seven, and Johnson and
McGinnis scored six each.
Moore had nine rebounds,
while Hicks had eight. Terin
Gillespie had five rebounds,
while Johnson and Moore both
had two steals each.
“Against Rabun County
we put ourselves in a very
large hole in the first quarter,”
Larimer said. “The best we
could do was to keep fight
ing and close the gap. Rabun
County is a very disciplined
and hard working team that
should go far in the region
tournament and in state.”
JEFFERSON
After a loss to Jefferson at
East Jackson last month, the
Lady Eagles hoped for a rever
sal of fortune when they trav
eled to Jefferson to face the
Lady Dragons in a rematch on
Saturday.
Early on, things looked
promising for East Jackson, as
they took an 11-10 lead at the
end of the first quarter. But the
Lady Dragons made a charge,
holding the Lady Eagles to
only five points in the second
quarter while they added 12
to their score to carry a 22-16
lead into the half.
Jefferson continued to con
trol the game in the third quar
ter, running up a 10-point lead,
32-22 by the end of the quar
ter. The Lady Dragons put
the game away in the fourth
quarter, holding East Jackson
to six points while they tacked
on another 14 to their score to
win 46-28.
Gillespie led the Lady
Eagles in scoring with seven
points, while Johnson and
Hicks scored five each, and
Moore and McGinnis each
scored four.
McGinnis had six rebounds,
while Moore had three assists
and four steals.
The Lady Eagles were
scheduled to host Oglethorpe
County in their final regular
season home game Tuesday.
Results were unavailable at
press time.
