County gets dividend
JACKSON County has
received a dividend in the
amount of $38,118 from
the Association County
Commissioners of Georgia
- Group Self-Insurance
Workers’ Compensation
Fund (ACCG - GSIWCF).
The dividend is Jackson
County’s share of a $3 mil
lion dividend declared by the
board of trustees. The dedi
cated and successful man
agement efforts of Jackson
County towards the imple
mentation of loss control and
the promotion of safety con
tributed significantly in the
reduction of injuries, claims,
and costs. The dividend will
be returned in the form of
a premium credit, applied
toward Jackson County’s
workers’ compensation pre
mium for the 2009 policy
year.
Georgia law, enacted
in 1982 at the request of
Georgia county governments,
allowed county members to
pool their resources by form
ing a nonprofit insurance
fund to provide for antici
pated losses and expenses.
The self-insurance program
is an effective method of
financing insurable risks,
which reduces insurance
costs for the county and ben
efits taxpayers. The ACCG
- GSIWCF collectively self-
insures a large portion of the
risk, and is owned by Georgia
county government mem
bers. The Board of Trustees,
who are representatives from
participating Georgia coun
ties, manage the Fund. The
ACCG - GSIWCF provides
professional loss control and
safety services at no addi
tional cost to help minimize
claims.
The dividends are possible
because of favorable results
in the investment of pre
mium dollars. The surplus
of premium dollars held in
reserve to pay claims, belong
to the member county gov
ernments and is derived from
the underwriting gains, when
losses are less than expected.
This investment income ben
efit is shared with the mem
bership, and is an important
part of the success of the
ACCG - GSIWCF Program.
Tournament at Chateau Elan
planned to help Angel Flight
THE 2009 Jim Shafer Memorial Tournament of Angels to
benefit Angel Flight — which provides free air transporta
tion to those with specialized medical care — will be held on
Thursday, May 14, at Chateau Elan.
The event is sponsored by Magnolia Plastics, Inc., and will be
held on The Woodlands and Chateau Courses at Chateau Elan.
Registration begins at 9 a.m., with a shotgun start at 11 a.m.
A lunch will be provided by The Atlanta Bread Company at
the Forum on Peachtree Parkway, and the day concludes with
an awards banquet and dinner by Fat Matt’s Rib Shack in the
pavilion.
The Angel Flight philosophy is that the cost of travel should
never stand in the way of receiving medical care. The major
ity of the people served live in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi,
North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Angel Flight
and their service is funded entirely by corporate and private
donations.
For information, call 770-452-7958, 1-877-4-AN-ANGEL
