WALL OF FAME AT BENTON
Each month, teachers at Benton select a student in their homeroom demonstrating
either excellence in behavior or excellence in education. These students are having
their picture displayed along with a brief explanation of their “Wall of Fame” accom
plishment. It is Benton’s hope to spotlight students that are striving towards educa

Sirmans earns Post Baccalaureate degree

Jefferson has received a Post
Baccalaureate degree from
the Teacher Preparation
Program in Social Science
from Western Governors
University (www.wgu.
edu).
The online, nonprofit uni
versity awarded more than
600 degrees at its semi
annual commencement cer
emonies held in Salt Lake
City on Jan. 24. While more
than 80 graduates attended
the event in person, approx
imately 350 participated
live via the Internet.
Local students named at Valdosta State
FIVE LOCAL students
have been named to the fall
2008 dean's list at Valdosta
State University. Dean’s list
students maintain a cumula
tive grade point average of at
least 3.0 and have a semester
grade point average of at
least 3.5 with at least nine
hours of course work.

to hold annual
talent show
WEST JACKSON Middle
School will hold its second
annual talent show on Friday,
March 13, at 6:30 p.m.
The show will be held

Comprehensive High School

Jackson County Planning Commission
PUBLIC HEARING
The Jackson County Planning Commission will
hold a public hearing at 6:00 p.m. on
Thursday, March 26, 2009, at the Jackson
County Administrative Auditorium, 67 Athens
Street, Jefferson, Georgia, to consider the
following matters:
New Business
1. RZ-09-03 - Environmental Resource
Technologies, Inc. requests to rezone
approximately 5.2 acres located at
2476 Lipscomb Lake Road,
Pendergrass from “Agricultural
Rural Farm District (A-2) to
Manufactured Housing District (MH)
for a two lot split. (Map 088 Parcels
0041)
The Jackson County Board of Commissioners
will address the recommendations of the
Planning Commission at a public hearing on
April 20, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at the Jackson
County Courthouse at 5000 Jackson Parkway.
Complete applications, plats, texts, maps, and
public hearing procedures are available for
review in the Planning Division Office of the
Department of Public Development during
regular office hours. All interested persons are
invited to attend.
Anyone desiring to speak in opposition to one
of the above cases shall file a Campaign
Contribution Disclosure form at least 2
business days prior to the March 26, 2009
Public Hearing.
