accepted for two youth
awards, a Youth Citizenship
Award and a Youth Service
Awaixl. to recognize excep
tional young people in
Jackson County.
Teen Connection, a Family
Connection task force, is
soliciting nominations for the
two awards to be announced
during its upcoming Family
Engagement Day. Family
Engagement Day is a com
munity fair showcasing activ
ities, programs, and volunteer
opportunities available to the
families and youth of Jackson
County. The event will be
held at the Commerce Civic
Center on Saturday, May 9,
between 10 a.m.-lp.m.
The Youth Citizenship
Award will recognize a
Jackson County youth who
has overcome obstacles or
made great strides in reaching
a personal goal. The Youth
Service Award will recog
nize a young person who has
made efforts to improve their
community. Deadline for
nominations is April 29.
“We feel it is very impor
tant to support and recog
nize young people who are
making an effort to better
themselves and/or Jackson
County,’’ said Niki Adams,
Executive Director of Family
Connection and one of the
sponsors of the May 9 rt
event.

EJMS FLORICULTURE TEAM COMPETES AT AREA EVENT
The East Jackson Middle School FFA Floriculture Team recently competed in the
Area II FFA Floriculture Career Development Event held at the University of Georgia.
FFA members (L-R): Thuy Tran, Faith Gilman and Hang Tran participated in the team
event that included identification of plant materials and a written exam involving
basic horticulture knowledge. The Junior Floriculture Career Development Event is
designed to stimulate an interest in the floriculture field for middle school students
and to prepare them for the more advanced Floriculture CDE offered to high school
students through the FFA.
