ADOPT A CHICK
PROGRAM
The adopt a chick program
was done with the help of East

dents were given the opportunity
to adopt baby chicks, and feed
and nurture them for six weeks.

erly care for the chicks, maintain
accurate records in their record
book, and answer any questions.
Sixty chicks were adopted by 25
students.
The program was started by
EJES first grade teacher. Dawn
Brock, who identified a need to
engage her students in an ani
mal-related project with a goal
of teaching responsibility and the
value of hard work. The Jackson
County Young Farmers donated
the chicks.
The EJES students also partic
ipated in a poultry show judged
by the EJCHS FFA Poultry
