April Rotary Students of the Month
KBMS to hold summer reading program
THE APRIL Rotary
Students of the Month
have been announced:
Jennifer Baker, Jackson
County Comprehensive
High School; Douglas
Chambers, Commerce High
School; Katie Mahany,
Jefferson High School; and
Christopher White, East
Jackson Comprehensive
High School.
BAKER
Jennifer Baker is the
daughter of Doug Baker.
Her classes for the year
included desktop publish
ing, advanced placement
English, advanced art, aero
bics, advanced trigonome
try, recreation sports and AP
economics.
She has served as captain
of varsity football and com
petitive cheerleading; presi
dent of Beta Club; mem
ber of the National Honor
Society; member of the
Student Advisory Council;
member of National Spanish
Honor Society; and member
of History Club.
Baker has been named a
top scholar athlete for cheer
leading, an honor graduate,
in the top 10 of her class, for
the presidential award for
educational excellence and
for the Georgia Certificate
of Merit.
She chose Natalie Smith as
her most influential teacher.
Baker will attend the
University of Georgia in
the fall with an undecided
major. She plans to pursue a
career in the environmental
or medical field.
CHAMBERS
Douglas Chambers is the
son of James and Cheryl
Chambers.
His courses have included
digital media technology,
English literature/composi
tion, business management,
economics, government,
music appreciation and
advanced band.
Chambers has been active
in Y-Club, Key Club, march
ing band, Boy Scouts and
church activities. He is
chaplain for the Northeast
District Y-Club and is an
Eagle Scout.
Chambers chose Michele
Stewart as his most influen
tial teacher.
He plans to join the
Pipefitting Union as an
apprentice and become a
pipefitter.
MAHANY
Katie Mahany is the
daughter of Traci Elrod.

The Kings Bridge Middle
School media center will
sponsor “The Eagle’s Nest
Summer Reading Program”
for all current KBMS stu
dents, as well as for upcom
ing sixth graders from South
Jackson Elementary and
Benton Elementary schools.
The program begins June
8, with the media center
being open every Monday
and Wednesday from 8 to
11 a.m., and from 8 a.m.
to 2 p.m. every Friday.
Many activities are being
planned.
The final day of the pro
gram will be held July 17.
with students receiving spe
cial recognition and incen
tives.

JHS names April 3D Award winners
BAKER
MAHANY

Mahany has been involved
in Total Person Program,
yearbook staff and tutoring
elementary students. She has
been active in varsity foot
ball and competitive cheer
leading for four years. She
was captain of both squads
for 2008-09.
Mahany has been named
to Who’s Who Among
American High School
Students and to the National
Honor Roll. She received
NCA’s Captain Award for
leadership; has been named
Cheerleader of the Year
twice; and received the
Outstanding Jumps Award,
the Future Star Award and
Athlete of the Week.
Mahany chose Raygan
Moak as her most influen
tial teacher.
She plans to attend Georgia
Southern and transfer to the
University of Georgia to
obtain her master’s degree
in education.
WHITE
Christopher White is the
son of David and Shirley
White.
His classes have includ
ed AP English literature,
JROTC and advanced eco
nomics.
CHAMBERS
WHITE
White has been involved
in Beta Club, JROTC,
NEHS, FCA, Academic
Team, History Club and the
First Georgia Bank Junior
Bank Board.
He has been active in cross
country, track and JROTC
Raider Team.
White is an honor gradu
ate and was named ninth
in his senior class. He has
received honorable mention
for Northeast Georgia Cross
Country Team, is a com
munications officer with
JROTC and lettered three
times in track and twice in
cross country. He has numer
ous JROTC awards, is in the
academic top 10 percent and
was named captain of the
Academic Team.
White named Lisa
Simmons his most influ
ential teacher. He plans to
attend Young Harris College
and wants to major in com
munication and eventually
become a sports journalist.
Jefferson High School has
named the "3D Award" win
ners for April. Recognized are
Courtney Clarke, 12th grade;
Sky Porter, 11th grade; Karla
Carreno, 10th grade; and
Quinn Millsap, ninth grade.
The 3D Student of the
Month Award is part of the
JHS incentive program and is
awarded monthly to four stu
dents - one per grade level -
based on dependability, dedi
cation and diligence. Students
are nominated and chosen by
JHS staff and those selected
get lunch off campus with the
principal and assistant princi
pal, a T-shirt, photo recogni
tion in the school lobby and
a certificate of recognition at
the honors brunch.
CLARKE
Courtney Clarke is the
daughter of Brian and Kristie
Clarke.
She is involved in Total
Person Program, Beta Club
and went on the World War II/
Europe trip.
Clarke is co-president of
the Beta Club and is an honor
graduate.
Her favorite courses are
social studies and psychol
ogy.
Clarke plans to attend
Gainesville State College and
major in psychology.
PORTER
Sky Porter is the son of
Keith and Jody Porter.
He is involved in football,
tennis, Beta Club. Student
Council, Total Person
Program, FBLA and FCA. He
has received JHS blue cards.
CLARKE
Porter’s favorite subject is
math.
He plans to attend the
University of Georgia and
work for his father at Keith
Porter Insulation.
CARRENO
Karla Carreno is the
daughter of Luis and Made
Carreno.
She is involved in vol
leyball, soccer and concert
band.
Carreno is a member of the
Spanish Honor Society and
was named soccer defensive
Most Valuable Player and for
the volleyball coaches award
PORTER
in 2008.
Her favorite subjects are
math and citizenship.
Carreno plans to attend a
four-year college and major
in psychology.
MILLSAP
Quinn Millsapp is the son
of Lisher and Ira Hamilton.
He is involved in JROTC
and is a winner of the 3D
Award.
His favorite subjects are
JROTC, L.A., math, band and
social studies.
Millsapp plans to become
a doctor, video producer and
game show host.
