MEMORIES...The annual
Athens Christian High School
Awards Banquet was held on
May 21 at the Athens Holiday
Inn. Many students were
recognized for excellence in
athletics, academics, and the
fine arts.
The seniors were especially
honored, with many receiving
appreciation awards for
faithfulness in various phases
of school life during their years
at ACS.
The seniors will soon leave
these halls of learning, but
they will depart with many
pleasant memories. ACS is a
builder of lasting and happy
memories. With the Lord in
first place, a foundation is laid
upon which unfading
memories are built.

coming up June 1 in Jefferson
THE JEFFERSON Com
munity Theatre is ready to
cast its first performance,
“Steel Magnolias.”
Auditions will be held from
6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 1,
at the William Duncan Martin
Performing Arts Theatre at
Jefferson High School. Call
backs and additional audi
tions will be held at 6 p.m.
Thursday, June 4, at the same
location.
Shows are planned for 7:30
p.m. July 24 and 25: 2 p.m.
July 26; 7:30 p.m. July 31
and Aug. 1; and 2 p.m. Aug.
2. The performances will be
held at the JHS performing
arts theatre.
Written by Robert Harling,
“Steel Magnolias” is the story
of six Southern women and
how they “together, find the
strength and hope to weather
the personal troubles and trag
edies which they experience
in their lives,” according to the
community theatre’s artistic
director, Ray Ferrante. “They
sometimes do so by cracking
jokes; they laugh so they will
not cry.”
Director’s suggestions for
auditions: “Rent the movie and
see it, if you haven’t already,”
Ferrante said. “It will give you
a good idea about the story.
The play isn’t exactly like the
film, but it is close enough.
And, no, you won’t have to try
and copy the actor in the film
in your audition. You can do
your own personal version of
the part as long as it is in keep
ing with the script. Don’t get
too nervous about your lack of
audition skills if you’re new,
this isn’t Broadway. Again,
auditions will be open to all,
even those with no previous
acting experience.”
“Also, please only audition
if you are fully prepared to do
a six week evening rehearsal
period. Please only accept a
part if you are sure you’ll
have the time, commitment
and desire to follow through
and do your best. Good luck
and see you at the audtions.”
