RECOGNIZED AT JES
One student from each classroom at Jefferson Elementary School was selected
to attend the May Dragon Diner for demonstrating obedience: trusting those who
lead you by doing what you’re asked to do. The students were treated to pizza and
cookies on the stage in the cafeteria. Pre-K and kindergarten students recognized
were: (front row) Kadyn Appleby, Marcos Santana, Bryan Peavey, Jake Carter, Kanye
Calloway, Conner Bray, Macarena Troncoso-Hernandez, Aspen Bruce, Abbigail

has scheduled several reg
istration dates during the
months of June and July for
students new to the Jefferson
City School System.
New students to the school
system who will be entering
grades 6, 7 or 8 may regis
ter from 9 a.m. to noon on
one of the following dates:
Friday, June 12; Friday, June
19; Friday, June 26; Friday,
July 10; Friday, July 17; and
Friday, July 24.
Students enrolling in
Jefferson Middle School
will be required to provide
the following documenta
tion:
Ninth grade
orientation
at EJCHS set
East Jackson Comprehensive
High School will hold Eagle
Prep Day from 8:30 a.m. to
noon on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
This will be an orientation
for ninth graders. Students will
be able to get their schedules,
meet their teachers, learn their
way around the school, find
out about clubs and activities,
learn their bus schedule and
win prizes. Snacks will be pro
vided, as will bus transporta
tion.

Adam Cofield
named to FIT
dean’s list
Adam Cofield, Jefferson,
was named to the dean’s list
for spring semester at Florida
Institute of Technology.
Cofield is a pursuing a
bachelor’s degree in aero
space engineering.
To be included on the
dean’s list, a student must
complete 12 or more grad
ed credits in a semester
with a semester grade point
average (GPA) of at least
3.4.
Guidance counselor available
at JHS during summer months
Jefferson High School will have a guidance counselor avail
able to meet with students and parents over the summer from 9
a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following Tuesdays: June 16, June 23, June
30, July 7 and July 14.
“All students and parents are encouraged to take advantage of
this schedule if they are in need of assistance from one of our
counselors,” principal Kevin Smith said.

EDWARDS WINS ART COMPETITION
Representative Paul Broun, M.D. (GA-10) has announced that Aaron Edwards, an
11 th grade student at Jackson County Comprehensive High School, is the district
winner of the 2009 Congressional Art Competition. Aaron is invited to attend a
reception in Washington D.C. in June. His graphite sketch, entitled Master’s Hand,
will be showcased for one year in the Cannon tunnel that leads into the U.S. Capitol.
Thirty-six high school students from the 10 th Congressional District participated in
this year’s Congressional Art Competition. Taylor provided an acrylic painting of a
northeast Georgia pasture, entitled Last Light of Day.
