Illegal burn case has strange twist
AN INVESTIGATION
into an illegal outdoor burn
turned into a potential child
welfare case.
The West Jackson Fire
Department was called to
a Ga. Hwy. 53, Braselton,
address for a smoke investi
gation on Friday. There was
an unattended fire with wood,
garbage and other waste.
A woman in the mobile
home on the property said she
didn’t know who started the
fire and she had been indoors
all day. Some men also told
firefighters that they didn’t
own the property and they
didn’t live there.
A firefighter told them they
weren’t in trouble, since it
was the first reported case
of a potential illegal outdoor
burn at the residence.
One of the men said his
wife was watching the chil
dren inside the mobile home
for “them" — but those on
the scene didn’t know the
parents of those children.
One of the men then con
fessed who owned the prop
erty, but said he didn't start
the fire and neither did those
at the scene. The man said he
came to get the trash on the
property and someone else
set the fire, according to an
incident report.
