Fatality wreck on Highway 441
A FLOWERY Branch man was killed and
two others were injured Monday morning in a
one-vehicle accident in the northbound lane of
the Hwy. 441 bypass in Commerce.
The Georgia State Patrol identified the vic
tim as Israel Contreras-Alvarez, 57.
A 2002 Ford FI50 pickup truck owned by
Oak Ridge Landscaping, Jefferson, was pulling
a flatbed trailer with a load of mulch north
bound between Hwy. 98 and Hwy. 326 when
the vehicle apparently went out of control,
went off the right side of the roadway and over
turned at about 9:30 a.m. on the right shoulder
of the road.
“A witness said the truck was traveling north
bound and the trailer began to sway, causing
the driver to lose control,” the patrol spokes
person said. He added that Israel Contreras-
Alvarez was not wearing a seat belt and was
partially ejected.
A gas can, shovels and other tools were scat
tered about the accident scene. EMS, rescue,
the Commerce Police Department, Commerce
Fire Department and Georgia State Patrol
responded to the accident. The two injured
men sat on the road bank nearby to be attend
ed by paramedics. They were transported to
Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treat
ment.
The State Patrol identified them as Oscar
Vallejo, 37, of Gainesville, and Israel Contreras-
Partida, 30, of Dade City, Fla.
