AN OFFICER with the
Jefferson Police Department
was getting gas at a Hwy.
129 business when he spot
ted a stolen vehicle in the
parking lot.
While it was being con
firmed that it was a sto
len vehicle, a truck driver
approached two police offi
cers at the scene and report
ed that a suspicious man saw
the officers at the truck and
then ran away.
One of the officers went to
a nearby restaurant and saw
a man fitting the description.
He asked the man to stop
and, when he refused, began
to chase him. The suspect
ran until the officer ordered
him to stop at gun point.
The suspect, Jordan Scott
Free, was searched and keys
that went with the stolen
vehicle were reportedly
found on him. A check also

Residential fire reported in Jefferson
A RESIDENTIAL fire was reported Tuesday
morning at 456 Y.Z. Sailors Road in Jefferson.
Units from Harrisburg, Jefferson and the
Jackson County Correctional Institute Fire
Departments responded to the fire. The single
family residence was found fully involved with
fire. The house was a total loss, but no one was
home at the time.
The fire is under investigation by the state
fire marshal's office.
Man charged after officer spots stolen truck
Georgia State Patrol reported 18 wrecks
STATE TROOPERS
from the Athens post of the
Georgia State Patrol investi
gated 18 traffic crashes dur
ing June in Jackson County.
The traffic crashes resulted
in 35 injuries and three traf
fic deaths.
Troopers from Post 32 also
issued 110 traffic citations in
the county during the month.
The total includes three
arrests for driving under the
influence, 63 citations for
speeding, 10 seat belt viola
tions, and two child restraint
