THE JACKSON County Lady Panthers vol
leyball team got their season started recently,
including picking up a victory against Salem.
The Lady Panthers will next travel to Oconee
County to face Oconee and North Oconee on
Thursday. Starting time is slated for 5 p.m.
Jackson County started their season on
August 20 with a road trip to face Cedar Shoals
and Salem.
The Lady Panthers fell to Cedar Shoals 2-0
with scores of 25-20 and 25-12. But they came
back to defeat Salem 2-0 with scores of 28-26
and 25-11.
“I feel like we are continuing to improve,”
said coach Crystal Colley. “We have been
working hard on our serving, and it paid off.
I am glad to see that my girls are playing as a
team. We simply need to work on making less
mistakes.”
Colley said one key player of the Salem
match was Samantha Moua.
“We scored many points on her serve,” she
said.
Next up was a trip to Prince Avenue to
face the Lady Wolverines and Fellowship
Christian.
Jackson County came away on the short end

JHS VOLLEYBALL
Jefferson to host East Jackson Thurs.
THE JEFFERSON Lady
Dragons continued their strong
season run last week with vic
tories over Johnson, Buford,
Lakeview Academy and
Flowery Branch.
Next up is a home stand
against East Jackson and
Athens Christian on Thursday.
Match time is scheduled for
5 p.m.
Jefferson traveled to Buford
last Tuesday to face a strong
Johnson team. The Lady
Dragons led the entire match,
but had trouble putting away the
Lady Knights. Serving made
the difference for Jefferson,
as the team combined for 11
aces in the match. The Lady
Dragons picked up the win
2-0, with scores of 25-23 and
25-21.
Taylor Cramsey had three
kills defensively, while
Stephanie Fincher had four
kills.
Jefferson next took on host
Buford, coming out on top
2-0 with scores of 25-16 and
25-21.
The match was very simi
lar to the Johnson struggle as
Jefferson took an early lead in
both games but Buford would
not fold. Again serving was
the key with 14 Dragon Aces
while Fincher had five kills
and Cramsey had seven on the
match.
“This was a very good night
for us as we defeated two
quality opponents with great
traditions of excellence,” said
Jefferson head coach Michael
Paul.
Next up was a home stand
for the Lady Dragons, as
they played host to Lakeview
Academy and Flowery Branch.
Jefferson started out by
defeating sub-area rival
Lakeview 2-1, with scores of
25-12, 19-25 and 25-18.
Serving again made the dif
ference in the outcome, as the
Lady Dragons combined for 17
aces, with Cassie Metcalf piling
up 11. Metcalf also had eight
kills offensively, while Fincher
had 11 and Eden Starnes had
five. Mandy Daniel had 13
assists while Karla Carreno had
eight.
“Hannah Gilbert had a good
night in the back row with sev
eral key digs and a couple back
row attacks that kept the Lions
on the defensive,” Paul said.
The Dragons took on Flowery
Branch in the next match. The
Lady Dragons were victorious
2-0 with scores of 25-22 and
25-15. The team accumulat
ed 17 aces with all servers
gaining at least one. Taylor
Cramsey led the charge with
five. The offense was balanced
as five different Lady Dragons
recorded kills. Metcalf had
four, Daniel one, Fincher six,
Carreno two and Starnes three.
Five different players also had
assists with Daniel leading the
way with six.
“We had a great night beat
ing two very good teams,” Paul
said. “We have stressed serv
ing with a purpose in practice
and attempt to make our serve
part of our offense. Last night
it paid off. Most importantly
we played as a team Thursday
and when we do that good
things happen.”
The Lady Dragons were slat
ed to travel to Rabun County
Tuesday. Results of that match
were unavailable at press time.
