Jefferson wins nine in a row
AFTER LAST week’s
matches, the Jefferson Lady
Dragons volleyball team is in
the midst of a nine match win
ning streak, and is currently
undefeated in the area with a
3-0 record.
Next up is a trip to Lakeview
Academy to face the Lady
Lions as well as the Lady
Panthers of Jackson County.
Match time is scheduled for
5 p.m.
RABUN COUNTY
Last Tuesday, the Lady
Dragons traveled to Rabun
County for a single match
against the Lady Wildcats.
After a slow start, the score was
15-15 in the first set. That’s
when Cassie Metcalf stepped
back to serve, connecting on
four aces. The team then ral
lied to finish 25-18.
In the second set, Jefferson
was paced by strong serving
again by Metcalf, as well as
solid play by Megan Wilson,
Taylor Cramsey and Carolyn
Carreno off the bench. The
Lady Dragons won 25-19, giv
ing them a 2-0 victory over
Rabun County.
Cassie Metcalf had four aces
against Rabun County. Megan
Wilson had one.
Cassie Metcalf had one kill.
Stephanie Fincher had five.
Taylor Cramsey had four.
Eden Starnes had three.
Mandy Daniel had one
assist. Karla Carreno had 10.
EAST JACKSON
On Thursday, the Lady
Dragons hosted sub-area
opponent East Jackson and
Athens Christian.
Against East Jackson,
Jefferson took an early lead
in the first set and went on to
win 25-7.
East Jackson rebounded in
the second set, leading 13-3
at one point before Jefferson
began making a charge.
East Jackson continued to
lead until Stephanie Fincher
stepped back to serve as the
Lady Dragons trailed 24-20.
Fincher, the team’s senior cap
tain, served six straight points
to help Jefferson win the set
26-24, and the match 2-0.
Against East Jackson,
Cassie Metcalf had five kills,
Mandy Daniel had two,
Stephanie Fincher had eight,
Taylor Cramsey had six, Eden
Starnes had four and Carolyn
Carreno had one.
Cassie Metcalf had seven
aces against East Jackson.
Hannah Gilbert had two and
Stephanie Fincher had two.
Mandy Daniel had 12
assists. Karla Carreno had
one and Carolyn Carreno had
eight.
ATHENS CHRISTIAN
In the last match of the
evening, Jefferson defeated
Athens Christian 2-0 with set
scores of 25-11 and 25-21.
In the first set, the Lady
Dragons moved out to an early
lead and never looked back.
Athens Christian managed to
match Jefferson point for point
in the second set, but in the
end, the Lady Dragons came
away with another win.
Against Athens Christian,
Cassie Metcalf had six kills,
Stephanie Fincher had six,
Taylor Cramsey had six, Eden
Starnes had three and Carolyn
Carreno had one.
Hannah Gilbert had two
aces. Mandy Daniel had one.
Stephanie Fincher had three.
Taylor Cramsey had seven.
Carolyn Carreno had two.
Mandy Daniel had eight
assists, while Carolyn Carreno
had 11.

play later, Chris Jackson ran the ball in 11 yards
for the touchdown.
In the end, it was a Dragon rout, as Jefferson
won 56-16.
BY THE NUMBERS
Quarterback Darius Minor went 3-6, passing
for 36 yards, and had three carries for 44 yards,
including a 19-yard touchdown run.
Back up quarterback Cody Hardy went 3-3,
including a touchdown pass to Drequn Sewell.
Lucas Redd had two caries for seven yards
and two touchdown runs of six yards and one
yard. J.J. Damons had four carries for 48 yards,
including a 19-yard touchdown reception. Chris
Jackson had one carry for an 11-yard touchdown
run.
On the receiving end, Drequn Sewell had 45
yards including one touchdown. J.J. Damons had
19 yards, including one touchdown. Lucas Redd
had 12 yards and Sky Porter had five yards.
Overall, the Dragons rushed for 176 yards
and passed for 81 yards for a total of 257 yards.
Jefferson had nine first downs, and a total of 30
offensive plays.
On the defensive side, Chris Jackson had eight
tackles, one for a loss, and caused one fumble.
Charlie McClure had five tackles. Michael
Cidboy had five tackles. Zack Allen had five
tackles, including one sack and two tackles for
a loss. Buddy Camp had six tackles, including
a sack and a tackle for a loss. Andre Daniel had
one interception.
Overall, the Dragons gave up 135 yards rush
ing and 114 yards passing.
Dawson County had 12 first downs. Jefferson
had seven tackles for a loss.

JCCHSTAKES SECOND
The Jackson County Comprehensive High School Varsity Competition Cheerleading
Squad placed second at their first competition at Apalachee High School. The JV
competition squad also competed well. The Varsity squad will compete again on
Saturday, September 19 at Mill Creek High School. Varsity team members include
Megan Mundy, Kelsee Ryan, Jessica Keene, Megan Carter, Marci Reynolds, Ana
Toops, Danielle Kibbe, Kaitlan Brown, Tiffany Morgan, Jennifer Deardorff, Colleen
Colvin, Megan FitzGerald, Micayla Wetherford, Kassia Florentine, Jenni Swaim
and Raven Jones. JV team members include Nora Jones, Susanna Ray, Bridget
Fleming, Ashley Johnson, Destinee Ledford, Presley Leavell, Brittney King, Amanda
Langston, Tyler Williams, Angel Parker, Kaylee Baggett, Shelby Gilbreath, Karissa
Latonis, Sidney Strickland, Mariah Spry and Samantha Roundtree. Varsity coaches

SOCCER CHAMPS
The Jackson County Park and Rec Wildcats U-14 Athena Soccer Team won the
Athens Invitational Soccer Tournament championship on August 22 - 23,2009. Team

Lady Panthers fall to Hart, Oconee Co.
IT’S BEEN a rough season
so far for the Lady Panthers
varsity volleyball team, as
they continue to look for their
first win of the season.
Their next opportuni
ty will come Thursday, as
Jackson County will travel to
Lakeview Academy to face
the Lady Lions as well as
Jefferson.
Start time is scheduled for
6 p.m.
The Lady Panthers traveled
to Hart County to face the
Lady Bulldogs on Sept. 1.
They came away with a 2-0
loss with set scores of 25-12
and 25-16.
Jackson County was also
slated to face Eastside.
Results of that match were
unavailable at press time.
Next up was a trip to
Oconee County last Thursday.
Jackson County came out on
the short end of a 2-0 score,
with set scores of 25-6 and
25-14.
The Lady Panthers also
faced North Oconee, coming
away with a 2-0 loss. Set
scores were 25-11 and 25-9.

will be accepting applications for Hall of
Fame nominees untill September 18. Any cit
izen may nominate a coach, participant, staff
member and other citizens who have played
a significant role in the development of Parks
and Recreation in Jackson County.
