Rev. Howard Banks
HOSCHTON - Rev.
Howard Banks, 82, died Friday,
September 4, 2009.
Bom in Jackson County, he
was the son of the late Clinton
Columbus and Magdalene
Marsingill Banks. He served
as Pastor of the Center United
Methodist Church in Hoschton,
the Lebanon United Methodist
Church in Jefferson, and
the Duncan Chapel United
Methodist
Church in Hall
County. He
was a veteran
having served in the United
States Army. Mr. Banks was
preceded in death by a sis
ter, Willene Williams; niece,
Sheila Williams; and a nephew,
Danny Vaughn Jr.
Survivors include brothers
and sister-in-law, Horace and
Helen Banks, Buford, and Joel
Banks, Hoschton; and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
Monday, September 7, at
the Center United Methodist
Church with the Rev. Blaine
Spence officiating. Burial was
in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may
be made to the Center United
Methodist Church or St. Mary’s
Hospice.

Susan Denton
HOMER - Susan Meeler
Denton, 50, died Sunday,
September 6, 2009, at her resi
dence.
Born on October 2, 1958, in
Jackson County, she was the
daughter of Ruby Ward Meeler
of Baldwin and the late Loyd
E. Meeler. She was an honor
graduate of the Banks County
High School and was a member
of Nails Creek Baptist Church.
She was formerly employed
with Orbit Manufacturing and
Jean’s Bridal and Tux, as well
as a caregiver to the elderly.
Survivors in addition to her
mother include her husband,
Jerry M. Denton, Homer; daugh
ters, Ashley Suzanne Denton
and Jeri Alexis Denton, both
of Homer; a sister and broth-
er-in-law, Sandra and Dwight
Wheelis, Cleveland; brothers
and sisters-in-law, Ricky and
Joan Meeler, Baldwin, and
Scott and Jennifer Meeler,
Commerce; three nieces; and
three nephews.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday, September 8, from
the Whitfield Funeral Home
with the Revs. Tim House,
Kenneth McEntire and Roy
Rogers officiating. Burial
was in the Damascus Baptist
Church Cemetery.

Roy Fuller
DANIELSVILLE - Roy
Jackson
Fuller,
74, died
Monday,
September
7, 2009,
following
an exten
sive illness.
He had
lived in
Danielsville for the past several
years, but had made his home
in Athens most of his adult life.
Born in Jackson County, he
was the son of Robert Jackson
and Ina Lowe Fuller. He was a
faithful member and leader of
Cross Roads Baptist Church
in Lawrenceville for the past
15 years, and served as trea
surer for more than 25 years
for Temple Baptist Church in
Athens.
Known to many as the
“Battery Man,” he owned and
operated Roy Fuller Battery
Service in Athens for many
years before ill health forced
him to retire. Mr. Fuller was
preceded in death by a sister,
Bette Fuller Cox; and an infant
daughter, Tammie Fuller.
Survivors include his wife
of more than 54 years, Delores
Fowler Fuller, Danielsville;
children, Terri Fuller Norris
(Steve), Mt. Juliet, Tenn.,
Kendra Fuller Holloway
(Nelson) and Sterling Fuller,
all of Danielsville, Kim Fuller
Lowry, Hiawassee; grandchil
dren, Steven Norris (Terra),
Brooke Norris Beavers, Erin
Norris Garner (Jason), Matthew
Norris (Heather Dabbs),
Lindsey Lowry, Morgan
Holloway, and Fuller Holloway;
great-grandchildren, Kaimen,

Ann Hayes, Watkinsville, and

Athens.

Thursday, September 10, at
11 a.m., at Lord & Stephens
Funeral Home with the Revs.

Phillip Hardman
COMMERCE - Phillip M.
Hardman, 59, died Sunday,
September 6, 2009, at his resi
dence following an extended
illness.
He was the son of the late
Ralph Benjamin
and Lucille
Chitwood
Hardman. He
worked with the Franklin
County Board of Education and
was a veteran, having served in
the United States Air Force.
Survivors include his
wife. Hazel Glenn Hardman,
Commerce; daughter and son-
in-law, Shelia and Jeff Neave,
Alto; daughter, Pat Whitlock,
Maysville; daughter and son-
in-law, Melba and Jr. Lewallen,
Baldwin; daughter and son-in-
law, Martha and Jessie Wall, Mt.
Airy; daughter and son-in-law,
Jan and Steve Phillips, Alto;
one brother, Howard Hardman,
Homer; grandchildren, Bree
and Cody Whitlock, Ethan and
Salem Frady, Amanda, Ethan,
Corey and Kimber Wall, and
Abbie Mae Lewallen.
Mr. Hardman was preced
ed in death by a son. Cliff
Hardman; and a sister, Mary
Lou Hardman.

Stanley Kalino
JEFFERSON - Stanley M.
Kalino Jr., 67, died Saturday,
September 5, 2009, in
Jefferson, after battling severe
health issues.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii,
on September 10, 1941, he
resided in Freemont, Manteca
and Rio Vista, Calif., most of
his life. He was retired from
Lockheed Missiles and Space,
Sunnyvale, Calif.
Survivors include his wife,
Jean Kalino, Jefferson; daugh
ter and son-in-law, Heather
and Todd Shultz, Jefferson;
and granddaughter, Keely
Campbell Shultz, Jefferson.
A celebration and remem
brance of his life will be held
Sunday, September 27, from
3 to 5 p.m., at the Briarcrest
Subdivision Clubhouse at the
intersection of Hwys. 11 and
124 in Jefferson.

ATHENS - Annie Mae
Lenzy, 77, formerly of
Barrow County, died Tuesday,
September 1, 2009.
She had lived at the
University Nursing Home for
the last 16 years. Born in
Barrow County, she was the
daughter of the late Daniel and
Rosa Lee Pittard. Mrs. Lenzy
was preceded in death by her
husband, John E. Lindsey; and
sisters, Daisy Johnson, Valerie
Moore and Mattie Sue Pope.

Lenzy and Rosalee Norman;
ten grandchildren, Paula Sheats,

Sue Luthi, 92, died Monday
September 7, 2009, at Athens
Regional Medical Center.
Born in Madison County
she was the daughter of the
late George and Lillian Donna
Graham. She was a home
maker and a member of the
Center Baptist Church. Mrs.
Luthi was preceded in death by
her husband, Clarence Edward
Luthi; and son. Gene Luthi.
Survivors include daughters
and son-in-laws, Barbara and
Garnett Kesler, Nicholson,
and Audrey and David Brown,
Athens; sons and daughters-in-
law; Jimmy and Marilyn Luthi,
San Angelo, Texas, and Doug
and Joan Luthi, Nicholson;
nine grandchildren; 14 great
grandchildren; and two great-
great-grandchildren.

Wednesday, September 9,
from the chapel of Little-Ward
Funeral Home with the Revs.

32, died
unexpect

morning
of August
31, 2009,
Monday.
She
worked as
a children’s
emergency nurse at Gwinnett
Medical and changed lives
every day with her smile, deep
caring and laughter. She walked
through life, hand in hand with
her twin sister and best friend,
Jennifer, who also worked in
the same emergency room with
her. Michelle touched the lives
of anyone’s path she crossed
and everyone was the better for
it. Words cannot capture the
way she lit up a room, the way
she could make you laugh or
the sweet, sweet spirit she was.
She will be greatly missed by
so many.
Survivors include her twin
sister and best friend, Jennifer
McElroy; her mom and stepdad,
Karen and David Coholich; her
dad and stepmom, Tom and
Donna McElroy; her loving
boyfriend, Ryan West; her five

Troy McGarity
HARTWELL - Troy Edward
McGarity, 42, died Saturday,
August 29, 2009, at Athens
Regional Medical Center.
He was the son of Vickie
Carey York of Hartwell. He
was a 1984
graduate
of Elbert
County
High
School and
served in
the Georgia
Army
National
Guard. He loved NASCAR and
the Georgia Bulldogs. He loved
his family, especially the kids,
and was “Uncle Troy” to all of
them. He was a great friend.
Mr. McGarity was preceded
in death by a sister, Sherri
McGarity Chappell; and grand
parents, Z.O. and Millie Carey.
Survivors in addition to his
mother include a brother and
sister-in-law, Eric and Jennifer
McGarity, Franklin Springs;
sister and brother-in-law,
Charlene and Jeremy Childs,
Martin; and several nieces and
nephews.

BJC Nursing Home.

Mass., he was the son of the
late Francis John and Isabella
Monroe Mullaney. He was a
retired pharmaceutical repre
sentative with Bristol Myers.
Mr. Mullaney was preceded
in death by a son, Daniel
Mullaney.

Texas.

12, 1940, the son of the late
Joseph and Grace Bell Segars
in Franklin County. He was

he lived most of his life before
moving to Jefferson. He was
employed with Russell Daniels
Corporation, where he retired,
and was a member of the East
Hall Baptist Church.
Survivors include his devot

both of Commerce; stepchil
dren, Tammy and Tommy
Meeks, Steve and Lola Jarrard,

L. “Sandy” Segars, 59, died
Friday, September 4, 2009.
Born in Athens on August
6, 1950, she was the daugh
ter of the late Brunell S. and
Winifred Gordon Lay. She was
a native of Winder and had been
a resident of Cartersville since
1985. She was a member of the
Sam Jones United Methodist
Church in Cartersville, where
she was chairperson of the Joy
Link. She was also the for
mer treasurer of the Sam Jones
United Methodist Church
Women. She was a loving
wife, mother, sister and friend,
and was an active community
volunteer and school volun
teer. Mrs. Segars was preceded
in death by a sister, Brenda
Hamilton; and father-in-law,
Edwin Segars.
Survivors include her hus
band, Jeff Segars; daughter,
Ashley Segars; son and fian
ce, Jake Segars and Jessica
Anderson; sister, Linn Carlyle,
Winder; mother-in-law, Lucille
Segars, Winder; sisters-in-law,
Janet Segars and Lisa and Keith
Maloof, all of Winder; brother-
in-law, Paul Hamilton, Winder;
and a number of nieces and
nephews.

LULA - Swayne Shubert,
65, died Friday, September 4,
2009, peacefully in his sleep at
his residence.
Born in Banks County on
November 6, 1943, he was the
son of the late Jesse and Dollie
Smith Shubert. He was a mem
ber of Rock Springs Baptist
Church, was a
veteran having
served in the
United States
Army with the 101st Airborne
Division, a member of the local
VFW, and was a Mason.
Survivors include his wife,
Joyce Shubert, Lula; son and
daughter-in-law, Marc and
Shina Shubert, Alto; grandchil
dren, Lauren and John Shubert;
sisters and brother-in-law,
Louise Sheridan, Maysville,
and Annie Hastings, Royston,
Mary and Clarence Orgeron,
Crossville, Tenn.; brothers and
sisters-in-law, William Shubert,
Warner Robins, and J.T. and
Shirley Shubert, Gainesville.
Mr. Shubert’s wishes were
for his body to be donated to
Emory University for scientific
study.

held Thursday, September 10,
at 2 p.m., at Rock Springs
Baptist Church with the Rev.
Gary Wilson officiating. Full
military honors will be pro
vided by the Grant Reeves
