Savannah Hix,

Cody Berryman
and Jacline
Griffeth.
Savannah Hix is
the daughter of Steven and
Sherry Hix. She is a member
of the marching band. Her
favorite school subjects are
art, band and English. She
plans to attend college and
study culinary arts.
Bost is the daughter of Zeb
and Kim Bost. Her school
activities include tennis. Her
favorite school subjects
are Spanish and language
arts. She plans to attend the
University of Georgia and
become a teacher.
Berryman is the son of
Alan and Kathy Berryman.
He is a member of the varsi
ty football team and is a FFA
officer. His awards include
receiving the 3-D Award in
the spring of 2008 and the
fall of 2008, as well as tak
ing top showmanship awards
for two years in swine com
petitions. His favorite school
subjects are United States
history and Ag mechanics.
He plans to pursue a career
in music.
Griffeth is
the daughter of
Carine and Bob
Griffeth. Her
school activities
include Academic
Bowl, Concert
Band, soccer,
Total Person
Program, Beta
Club, Scotland
Exchange Program, Spanish
Club and Student Council.
Her school honors and
awards include Georgia
Certificate of Merit, National
Spanish Honor Society and
1 st chair in All-State Band.
Her favorite school subject
is math. She plans to attend
college.
JCCHS HOMECOMING COURT
The Jackson County Comprehensive High School’s

fifth grader in Lori Cato’s class, is shown with his 3-D
amoeba. The students ended their unit on cells by
designing a 3-D animal or plant cell.
BOOK FAIR AT KBMS
On September 3, media specialists from Commerce, as
well as Clarke and Jackson counties, attended a book
fair workshop at Kings Bridge Middle School to share
ideas and information regarding this season’s theme:
“Read Around the World.” Mary Burke of Scholastic
Book Fairs presented a program for the media special
ists, paraprofessionals and parent volunteers to help
them prepare for their upcoming fairs. Kings Bridge
Middle School will hold its Fall Book Fair beginning
on Monday, September 28. A community night will be
held on the following evening, Tuesday, September
29, from 4-7 pm. The fair will end on Friday, October
2. Sponsors of the book fair invite families and com
munity members to come and help students shop for
good books. For more information, contact the school

Jefferson FFA to hold alumni show
Members of the East Jackson and Jackson County
Comprehensive High School HOSA chapters attended
the HOSA National Leadership Conference on June
23-28 in Nashville, Tenn. Students participated in the
following events: Jacke McCall, Medical Terminology;
Dustin Mauldin, Pharmacology; and Casey Finley HOSA
State Reporter. There were many activities conducted at
the National HOSA Conference. A series of leadership
development events were conducted as well as board
of directors meetings, campaigning and election of offi
cers, competitive events and informative workshops.
The HOSA members were accompanied by Charlotte
Sims and Elaine Walker, HOSA chapter advisors.
A PARADE and bonfire will
be held this week at Jackson
County Comprehensive High
School as part of the home
coming festivities.
The parade will begin at 6:30
p.m. at the school. Immediately
following the parade, the
ROTC will host a bonfire at
the football stadium.

JEFFERSON FFA Alumni
sponsored a swine and cattle
show for students with live
stock projects recently at the
Ag Barn.
Melvin and Hutch Porter
gave instruction on showman
ship skills, care of animals
and then judged the cattle
showmanship competition.
First place winners received
$50. Winners in the cattle
showmanship were Jenifer
Martin, senior showmanship;
and Kyle Fordham, beginner
showmanship.
Kipp Jackson served as the
swine judge. The senior show
manship winner was Jeremy
Gee. The intermediate win
ner was Justis Daniel and the
junior showmanship winner
was Summerlyn Courchaine.
Other Jefferson students
that participated were Katelyn
Fordham, Thomas Wilson,
Henna Davis, Jessica Bell,
Blake Mahurin, J.T. Torelli,
Ryan Mahurin and Jay Lee.
After the show, a barbeque
lunch was provided by the
Jefferson FFA Alumni. Alumni
members sold cooked Boston
Butts to raise money for the
livestock premiums provided
to the students.

learning up with automotive design guoj and television star
Chip Foose on a very special Braselton Bash, an automotive
event to benefit Ihe Progeria Research Foundation. PRF is the
only organization in the world dedicated to discovering the cure
for Progeria; a fatal, "rapid aging" disease that afflicts children
causing death of heart disease at an average age of 13.
Executive Director Audrey Gordon sard ’For the past four

Research Foundation."
