Local storyteller to share ‘Autumn Tales’

Butler, known locally as
Miss Donna, Storyteller, will
tell Fun Fall Tales: Folktales
& Stories about Autumn,
Tuesday, September 22, at
4 p.m., Maysville Public
Library.
Butler, who has been shar
ing stories and programming
with Georgia children for
over 20 years, uses folktales,
history and science to embel
lish her original tales. She is
a popular visitor to schools
and libraries, including those
in the Northeast Georgia
area.
Butler was recently cho
sen as the Project Horizon
Storyteller through the
Athens-Clarke County
Library System and has
served as featured teller at
the Georgia Children's Book
Award Conference, as well
as a wide variety of festivals
and events for children and
adults.

CAIN HONORED BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY
Ray W. Parrish (R), Ford Motor Company Regional
Manager, Atlanta Region, presented Billy Cain,
owner of Billy Cain Ford-Mercury, Inc., with a
25-year anniversary plaque on Wednesday, Sept.
2. Cain was recognized for 25 years as owner and
operator of the Ford dealership in Commerce. Cain
purchased the business, Commerce Ford, in July
1984 from James Short.

COUNTRY INN AND SUITES OPENS IN BRASELTON
The new Country Inn and Suites — located on Ga. Hwy. 124 in Braselton — held
a grand opening ceremony last week. The hotel features meeting space for up
to 90 guests, a deluxe hot breakfast, wireless internet service, an indoor pool
and spa, business center, fitness center, and Gold Points Plus reward points.
It also offers group and corporate rates. Officials from the Town of Braselton,
Barrow County government and Barrow County Chamber of Commerce also
participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony.
New CASA class scheduled for Oct.
A NEW class for the
Piedmont Judicial Circuits
Court Appointed Special
Advocate (CASA) program
will begin October 13 from
6-9 p.m. at the Commerce
First Baptist Church.
This class will run every
Tuesday night from October
13 through November 24.
“You will learn about
Juvenile Court processes,
how children develop, how
families and children inter
act, and most of all you will
learn how to help a child
whose world is turned upside
down,” organizers said.

One-Act Plays to be presented
THE COLD Sassy Players
will present “A Night of One-
Act Plays” Thursday, Friday
and Saturday at the Commerce
Cultural Center.
Performances begin at 7
p.m. each night. In addition,
there will be a 2 p.m. matinee
on Saturday.
The plays are “The Nearly
Newlywed Game,” “Dinner for
One,” and “Who’s Accused.”

Nicholson sets
library program
THE HAROLD S. Swindle
Public Library in Nicholson
has made plans for several
upcoming programs.
A bedtime story program is
presented on Tuesday nights
at 6:30 p.m. and a toddler
time is held at 10:30 a.m. on
Thursday mornings.
A local man will present
a program on snakes and
other reptiles at 2 p.m. on
Saturday, Oct. 10. He will
bring a variety of his per
sonal pets, including several
large snakes, a frilled lizard
and a large iguana. He will
teach about the proper care,
feeding and handling of rep
tiles.
The library will start fam
ily movie nights in October.

John B. Brooks Road Detour Route
John B. Brooks Road is scheduled for closure from SR 332 to Holly Way for the purpose of road construction,
weather permitting, from 6:00 PM on Friday, September 18th until 6:00 AM on Monday, September 21st. The
detour route provided will be signed to direct traffic on a safe alternate route.
