Maysville volunteer group
named honorary chair
TEAM JOSHUA Paul
Ledbetter (JPL), a memorial
fundraising group based in
Maysville has been named
Honorary Chair for the 2009
Metro Atlanta Out of the
Darkness Community Walk
benefiting the American
Foundation for Suicide
Prevention.
According to Chris Owens,
Area Director for the Atlanta
market, Team JPL was select
ed for this honor because of
their outstanding efforts in
leadership, fundraising and
outreach.
Team JPL was created
in memory of Joshua Paul
(Josh P) Ledbetter who died
on July 9, 2008. The group,
which is comprised of Josh’s
friends and family members,
beat out more than 20 other
groups and was named the
top fundraising group for the
5th Annual Metro Atlanta Out
of the Darkness Walk, held in
November 2008 in Piedmont
Park, Atlanta.
The honorary chair award
was announced in May as
a part of the kickoff for the
2009 Atlanta community walk
fundraising campaign. When
asked about the honor. Josh’s
mom, Lissa Ledbetter says
she can think of no better
way to honor the memory of
her son, a young man who
touched so many lives.
“What’s extraordinary is
that a small group of com
mitted folks has brought this
cause and Josh’s name to the
forefront in the Metro Atlanta
market,” she said. “That is
quite an accomplishment.”
Based on the belief that life
is precious, Team JPL’s motto
is, ‘Love life? Talk about
it. " Members have commit
ted themselves to sharing the
story of Josh’s life in hopes
of saving someone else’s life.
Maybe Josh’s Mom put it best
when she said, “If we don’t
talk about it, we can’t stop
it.”
Somewhere in America,
every 16 minutes, someone
commits suicide. It is the
group’s hope that through
education and awareness,
those suffering with a mental
illness will be prompted to
seek help.
