MYSTERY READER AT JES
Every Friday, first grade students at Jefferson Elementary School get to hear a story
read by a mystery reader. Chrissy Joiner and Jodi Stephens give hints all week who
their mystery reader will be but don’t reveal the identity of the person until just before
they arrive. One week, Coach T. McFerrin, new head football coach at Jefferson
High School, was their mystery reader. In preparation for the football game against
Dawson County, students were all dressed in red and blue spiritwear. What a sur
prise they had when Coach McFerrin turned out to be their mystery reader. Every
student at JES was given a free ticket to that home game.
Farmer receives scholarship

Georgia College of Agricultural
and Environmental Sciences
for the 2009-2010 aca
demic year. Each year the
College of Agricultural and
Environmental Sciences
awards approximately
$100,000 in scholarships to
students studying in any of its
24 majors.

CELEBRATES AIR FORCE BIRTHDAY
The cadets of the GA-20065 Dragon Group at Jefferson High School’s Junior
ROTC program celebrated the U.S. Air Force’s 62ND birthday, which was
September 18, 2009. The Air Force was created with the signing of the National
Security Act of 1947 on July 26, 1947 by President Harry S. Truman. The Air
Force became operational on September 18, 1947, when Chief Justice Fred M.
Vinson administered the oath of office to the first secretary of the Air Force,
Stuart Symington. Before this Act, the Air Force came under the U.S. Army as
the Army Air Corps. In keeping with tradition, the youngest member of the unit,
Cadet Jordan Schneider, and oldest member, Cadet Miguel Rodriguez cut the
cake. Both are pictured.

John and Helen Farmer of
Nicholson.
