50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
Pat and Gus Johnson, Jefferson, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by
attending the Georgia game on Sept. 12. They were married at Atlanta Christian
College.
Farm Bureau plans annual meeting
THE JACKSON County
FarmBureauAnnualMeeting,
Bluegrass & BBQ will be
held Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at
East Jackson Comprehensive
High School.
Live bluegrass music,
smoked beef brisket with all
the fixin’s and more will be
offered at the annual meet
ing. There will be activities
for the kids, door prizes and
flu shots.
Meal tickets are $5 for
adults and $2 for children
and flu shots are $25. RSVP
is required by Sept. 28.
Board elections and bylaw
changes will be voted on
at the meeting. Tickets

Braselton subdivision to hold shopping event
THE FALLS of Braselton
subdivision will hold a “Shop
‘Til You Drop” event for the
public on Thursday, Oct. 8, from
7-9 p.m.
The subdivision is located in
Braselton, off Ga. Hwy. 211.
The event will be held at the
neighborhood’s clubhouse.
The Falls of Braselton will
have several vendors selling
homemade Christmas orna
ments, Mary Kay, jewelry,
kitchen gadgets, Close To My
Heart stamps, and health and
beauty products.
Guests will receive one free
raffle ticket for a raffle and addi
tional raffle tickets will be avail
able for purchase. Refreshments
will also be served.

Church. They were married June 20,1959, in Abbeville,
S.C. The anniversary reception was given by family and

Community choir first
meeting set Sept. 29
THE FIRST practice for
a new community choir
slated to perform at the
Tree Lighting Ceremony at
the Braselton Antique Mall
in November will be held
at Zion Baptist Church on
Tuesday, Sept. 29, from
6:30-8 p.m.
Anyone ages 16 and
older, and wishing to join
must commit to week
ly practices on Tuesday
evenings at Zion Baptist
Church, located in the
Braselton Industrial Park,
off Ga. Hwy. 53
No special auditions will
be held. The choir will be
directed by Ryan Langford
and accompanied by Laura
Pityer.
The Tree Lighting
Ceremony has been a part
of Celebrating the Holidays
in Braselton for the past
five years. This year’s event
will be held on Nov. 14.
Local businesses can pre
pare and present an orna
ment for the tree this year.
Ornaments must advertise
a local business, be large
enough to be seen and look
professional.

Pumpkins to arrive in
Jefferson on Sept. 27
THE PUMPKINS are com
ing and they will be unload
ed in Jefferson at 4 p.m.
on Sunday, Sept. 27, at the
Joe Davis place across from
Jefferson High School.
Youth of the Jefferson First
United Methodist Church
sponsor the annual sale dur
ing October. They, along with
some of the adults from the
church, will unload the pump
kins.
A church-wide family picnic
will be held at the Pumpkin
Patch following the unloading
according to Spencer Arnold,
youth pastor at the church.
Mimosas for Mutts planned
THE HUMANE Society of
Jackson County will present
the 4th annual Mimosas for
Mutts fundraising event on
October 17 at the Jefferson
Civic Center. Fashions for
the event will be presented by
Coldwater Creek of Athens.
Live entertainment by the
Garnet River Gals and a silent
auction will also be featured
at the champagne brunch
fashion show.
Tickets for the event are
sold at $25 each, or $160
for a table of eight. For

weight loss challenge planned
Tri-County
A TRI-COUNTY Weight
Loss Challenge is planned
for the Jackson County area.
A meeting will be held at
noon on Thursday, Sept. 24,
at the Tri-County Weight
Loss Challenge center,
located at 1211 Washington
Street in Jefferson.
The 12-week class will
cost $39 and the money will
be paid out in cash prizes
to the winners. A donation
will also be made to the
Foundation for Prevention of
Childhood Obesity.
The program will include
a free body analysis, free
personal wellness coach,
free nutrition information
and weekly prizes.
The program will also
include advice on proper
nutrition and food choices,
as well as the benefits of
exercise. Each week, par
ticipants will weigh in and
consult with coaches who
will advise them.
Some of the topics to be dis
cussed include: Importance
of protein intake, calorie
intake, cleansing/auto intox
ication, making sense of car
bohydrates, importance of
drinking water, dining out,
stress, benefits of exercise
and heart health.

Motorcycle ride and car show planned for Oct. 17
JACKSON EMC’s Relay for
Life team is hosting a motorcy
cle ride and classic car show to
benefit The American Cancer
Society. The event will be held
at the Jackson EMC Jefferson
campus at 850 Commerce Rd
on Saturday, October 17.
Registration begins at 9 a.m.
and the police escorted ride
departs at 10 a.m.
A registration donation of
$20 per car or rider ($30 for
two up) includes a lap around
the newly-renovated Gresham
Motorsports Park (formerly
Peach State Speedway )and
a tour of Milton Robson’s
Car Collection along the ride
route.

to paid registrants), as well
as door prize drawings, and
