Lady Eagles fall to Dawson, Jackson Co.
By Brandon Reed
THE LADY Eagles of East
Jackson were hoping to enter
the Christmas break on a
high note, but it didn’t work
out that way as they fell
first to Dawson County then
to Jackson County over the
weekend.
The Lady Eagles will next

The Lady Eagles began
their weekend by playing
host to Dawson County on
Friday night.
In what would prove to
be a close game throughout,
the Lady Tigers took control
early, holding a slim 9-8 lead
at the end of the first quarter.
They would make the lead a
little larger by the end of the
second quarter, a four point
advantage, making it 23-19
going into the half.
The Lady Eagles worked
hard to stay within striking
distance, and trailed by five
at the end of the third quar
ter, 28-23. East Jackson then
made a late surge, but came
up just short as Dawson
County won 39-38.
Caroline Hicks led the
Lady Eagles in scoring with
16 points and 13 rebounds,
her second double double
of the season. Callie Moore
scored 11 points on the
night.
Next up was a Saturday
trip to Jackson County to
face the Lady Panthers for
the second time this season.
The Lady Panthers took
charge of the game early
on and never looked back.
Jackson County held a com
manding 11-3 lead at the
end of the first quarter. The
Lady Eagles found them
selves held to 10 points in
the second quarter while
Jackson County added 17 to
their tally to carry a 28-13
advantage into the half.
The Lady Panthers
stretched their lead in the
third, moving out to a 50-22
advantage. The Lady Eagles
added 20 points to their total
in the fourth quarter, but
came up short as Jackson
County won 62-42.
Callie Moore led in scoring
with 10 points. Lashundra
Gresham scored eight points
and had eight rebounds.
Caroline Hicks scored seven
points on the night. Shelby
Johnson had three steals
while Keilee Smith had two.
“In our past two region
games we have seen that
there are many more even
region teams than in the
past such as Union and
Dawson,” said coach Amy
Larimer. “We have to be
able to pull out some of the
close games with teams like
these to boost our confidence
and compete in region play.
We have to continue work
ing and focusing on playing
intense defense and scoring
consistently throughout the
game.”
Eagles defeat Dawson County
By Brandon Reed
THE EAST Jackson Eagles
split their last two games prior
to the Christmas break, pick
ing up a win over Dawson
County before coming up
just short in a game against
Jackson County.
Up next is a trip to Morgan
County for the Sweet South
Classic tournament Dec.
28-30. The Eagles will open
tournament play on Dec. 28
against Luella.
The weekend got off in good
fashion for the Eagles, as they
played host to the Dawson
County Tigers. East Jackson
held the Tigers to 15 points
in the first half and 19 points
in the second half and would
come away with a 56-34 win.
Brandon Garrett led in scor
ing with 22 points. Jermaine
Davis scored eight.
“It was a great defensive
effort,” said coach Brian
Turner. “Offensively we con
tinued to struggle a bit but our
defense was tremendous the
entire night and it opened up
some easy scoring opportuni
ties.”
Up next was a trip to
Jefferson to face their in
county rivals, the Panthers of
Jackson County.
It was a tight, back and forth
battle from the beginning.
The Panthers held a slim one
point lead,
13-12, at
the end of
the first
quarter,
and only
held a
four-point
lead, 30-26 at the half.
The Eagles continued
to fight back, moving back
to within two points by the
end of the third quarter as
the Panthers led 46-44. But
Jackson County was able to
slip away during the fourth

quarter, and would come away
with the 64-58 victory.
Brandon Garrett led the
Eagles in scoring with 20
points. Tyler Collins scored
16. Jermaine Davis scored
11.
“Our defense was just not
good all night. We never
could get the pressure we
wanted and when we did gel
a trap our rotations were late,”
Turner said. “However, we
hung in the game despite the
poor defensive effort and pool
free throw shooting going 16
for 30 from the line. It was
a learning experience as the
guys know and understand we
win because of our defense
and when we do not play it we
struggle.”
The Eagles entered the
Christmas break 2-1 in the
region.
“That is the big picture foi
us and what we are going to
focus on,” Turner said.
